Social History Project

hey people
I need a topic idea for a social history project I'm currently working on in my 20th century history class. Frankly I have no idea what I am going to do it on. Originally I thought of doing it on the nuclear accident at Chernobyl, but due to lack of information and interest that idea has died. so has anyone got any interesting ideas?
also a few things to keep in mind:
- it has to be in the 20th century
- it can't be anything war related, as the topic needs to be something that won't be on the final exam.
also it doesn't have to be a serious topic, it can be different, if you know what I mean. nothing wrong with a bit of individuality
any ideas would be great
thanks
Sven

social history?

i think it's about how people outlived the 20th century. lifestyle and cultural development. why not try researching about how minorities embraced the new way of life. how they integrated some part of it in their daily cultural activity.

mmm... just a suggestion.

What about the Miranda Rule - Based on the 5th & 6th Amendments.
Gideon v. Wainwright (1963), the Warren Court held that states must provide attorneys in felony cases for defendants too poor to hire their own lawyers.
Escobedo v. illinois (1964), the Court extended the right to counsel to include the right to talk with a defense attorney during police interrogation. Escobedo had asked to see his lawyer during police questioning, but the police had refused. They misled him into making the confession that led to his conviction.
Miranda v.Arizona (1966). Ernesto Miranda was identified in a police lineup as the man who had kidnapped and raped an eighteen-year-old girl. He did not request an attorney, and the police did not advise him of his right to one or of his right against self-incrimination. During intensive police questioning, he made incriminating statements that led to his conviction. The Supreme Court overruled his conviction and set down the Miranda Rule, which outlined the warnings the police must give before they interrogate a suspect.

...the impact (positive/negative) of slowly diminished social services (welfare, health care, etc) upon a population, notably lower income-working class families, or those who are welfare recipients.

How about the explosion of technology -

My grandparents, in their lifetime - saw the Wright brother's first flight and man walk on the moon. As well as the birth of the automobile, radio, TV, movies - almost everything we take for granted.

if you want some info on nuclear disarmament I have an essay that I wrote for an OAC Canadian History class.

it's got some info in it that's pretty much applicable regardless of what stance you take.

If you want it, just PM me and I'll try to get it to you.
