Kids Gender Wars

Every once in a while I hear and read about this in the media.

The words feminism, sexism, male vs. female pop up.

Do we really need a gender war? Aren't there better ways to channel ones energy and abilities?. Or do we still have problems in our societies that need to be adressed?.

Just wondering what others think about this

Yes to a certain degree. I believe it is healthy and human nature to be competitive. Of course there are always those that go to extremes.

I dont believe so. There will always be extemists in any situation. I think the movement is less in todays times than it has been in the past...

At my university there is an organization called "The Order of Gownsmen." It's a 120 year old body of the best students at the school. A couple weeks ago, some girl decided she wanted to make a fuss and tried to have the name changed because the "men" part is sexist??? The scary part is that slightly more than 1/3 of the body voted for the change.

She argued that the name alienated women. The Order is 60% female.

One word (ok, one word, one acronym): P.C. Crap.

Does she object to "man" being a part of 'woman" or "man" being a part of "human"? Would she want those changed to?

My point exactly

There's also an auditorium named "Blackman."

So many things wrong with that name I don't even know where to begin

The thing is, the only real reasons they could give to change it all boiled down to "everybody else is doing it." They kept saying "well this orginization changed this name and this university changed that one. Let's be like everyone else in the world then?

I'm getting ticked off just thinking of it again.
