That's too bad

Of course it was an accident...

Unfortunately, more military casulaties seem to happen in training nowadays.

This is unfortunate, considering that the last Canadian casualty occured during the Korean War in the 1950's.

My deepest sypathy and condolences goes out to the canadians involved in this tragic mistake.
It was sad enough to see this accident had happened .
Then I saw In the paper today that it was a plane from the 183rd ang based right here in my own home town that had dropped the bomb.

these pilots were supposed to be patrolling in kuwait. some one decided they were needed in afganistan instead. I don't know but this may have been the first real war zone some of these pilots had seen. they have patroled over kuwait before ,but that is not the same as having a real ground threat.

I do know they had not been in afganistan very long , If memory serves me corectly they left here less than a monthy ago for kuwait. When they were moved to afganistan I really don't know.

this has got to be one of the lowest days for the moral of the 183rd. I know some of these men, and they take there job seriously . This was a mistake that they will do everything they can to find out how it happened so that it is not repeated again

This makes me very sad. I hope the Canadians forgive us.

Just FYI to those that may or may not be following this... This was on the front page of the National Post (A Canadian newspaper) this morning...

Quote:
PILOT IGNORED ORDERS: SOURCES

'HE BOMBED ANYWAY' AFTER BEING TOLD TWICE NOT TO.

Canadian Military 'not pointing fingers' but indicates U.S. knew of training exercise.
..

The U.S. National Guard pilot twice requested and was refused permission to drop his ordnance after spotting tracer fire in a desert training area near Kandarhar, where paratroopers of the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry were on a live-fire exercise.

...

The Pentagon said it appeared the pilots did not know they were flying over a training area and the fire from the Canadian exercise made them believe they were under attack.
My question is... WHY? He was denied permission not once... but twice. I'm telling myself that this was a mistake... But why should we pat this guy on the back and reaffirm that it was only an accident? I know that if some kids ran out in front of my car and I didn't have time to stop (plenty of time to stop, in this situation), I strongly doubt that they waive the manslaughter charges because it was an accident.
