Kids What can they do?

My husband forgot to send out my March car payment..... They just called me and asked me if I had any reason for not paying it. I told them I thought it had went out, perhaps it got overlooked, and that I would take care of it. So, I called the pay-by-phone number and paid immediately.
This is the first time I've been late on a car payment. Will they turn me in as having bad credit?!?! What can they do, or will they do?

I doubt they'll be too hard line on one late payment, depending on the finance company. And the facts you had never been late before and have now paid immediately are in your favour.

We used to have a silly car payment scheme where we could only pay by cheque at a post office. We forgot a couple of times to take the cheque in, as all our other bills had reminders or were paid automatically (plus the fact I just forgot! ). They just rang us and asked why they hadn't received it, we said "Oops", paid it, and that was that!. No demerit points or credit black marks at all!

But if you are worried about your credit rating ring the company and ask about their policy on late payments. You may find they are reasonably forgiving, up to a point. Just be aware not to make a habit of forgetting, and all should be OK, as long as they are a reasonable company to deal with.

Cheers
Mick

In most cases, it wont end up as a back mark on your credit until it gets 90+ days or it goes to a collection agency...

I just got my credit report and was suprised to see how clean it was. I was out of work for a few months at the end of last year and the first of this year and was quite late on a few credit cards.

If you are really concerned check with your Finance company. Also you may want to check into automatic payment either through your bank or directly from them...

I don't know much about credit, etc. but I agree that they probably won't do much. Although I think that even if you forget and pay them back quickly, you should still NOT get in the habit of that because who knows....

Don't worry, I'm sure you're fine. With mine, Mazda, I think they said you have something like 7 screwups alloted or something like that I forget exactly. I'm guessing yours will be similar and easy to deal with. I hear if you miss it by a day with most auto insurance companies they are completely ruthless and just drop you until they get it, but haven't had the pleasure of doing that yet.
