Anyone here afraid of flying ?!?
I'm planning on flying all over europe this summer
and i just wanted to check if anyone else in here is afraid of flying
and what i can do to stop my anxiety attacks ?
Everytime i see a plane taking off i freak
and panic,Sometimes i imagine huge explosions and start to shiver
What can i do on my own to make sure this doesn't happen again? |

Hi, Skywalker, wow, that sounds like an actual phobia!
I'm one of those who MUST sit at the window on an airplane, I THRILL to the whole thing. But just show me a hypodermic needle, and I experience what you're describing.
A phobia is an unreasoning fear, but it is very real to the person. You could possibly seek some kind of therapy for this, maybe you can get over it?
Else I would say to change your plans, take a train trip, no use screwing up your vacation experience if you have to go through all that just to get from one place to another.

I've never been in a plane myself, but if you want to lower your fear, don't sit near the window maybe ?

Well it's not the flying that's a problem
it's taking off
I lived in paris for 2month's back in '00
and when i sat in the terminal to take my plane back to sweden
i saw the concorde explode.
This is the origin of my fear.
i've tried to convince myself that this only happends once in a lifetime and that my chances of beeing killed in a crash is virtually 0 but that doesn't seem to work. |

When it's flying off high structers with no form of stopping the bad side effect of falling. Yes then I do. Otherwise I love flying!
But to help fix your prob you need to find out what about flying is making you scared. Is it the confined spaces, the threat of terrorism, hights, all of the above, or something different?
Once you figure that out (or at least have an idea) you will be able to better fight your fear (you can't fight someone till you can confront them, and that means knowing who they are).

oh... I guess I posted to late. Ok, then that would be the basis for your fear! Your afraid that is going to be you on that plane.
A few facts can help, like your more likely to die on the way to the airport then flying.

You might try going to an airport and watching planes take off. Go with a loved one, and see that planes take off everyday, and are fine.

I have a great fear of flying. But it's all messed up. I can go to an airport and watch the planes taking of and landing, I love it. But being in a plane scares the daylights out of me, to the point where I don't know if I ever want to fly again. My main problem is the confined spaces and not being able to get out and get a breath of fresh air, and I would be lying if I said i wasn't afraid of crashing. This didn't start from 9/11 or any crashes. It just came out of the blue 5 years ago when I flew to Toronto, and know the thought of a plane makes me nautious. I know how you feel skywalker, I just hope there's a way around this.

| That's the same way I am. I love to look down on cities, etc.
