| One of our policies has always been to treat each other with respect and dignity, and we do not allow obscene language. These policies for conduct are our top concern and will be enforced. No one will be allowed to disrespect, intimidate, bully, "flame" or otherwise degrade or post inflammatory remarks about or to another member for any reason. Any and all such posts which are seen to contain such violations should be reported immediately to a Moderator. – TechIMO FAQ |
It has become apparent that some are having trouble grasping the policy established for this site, therefore I will try to clarify a few items and also give fair warning that members who continue to disregard the rules of this site will be subject to immediate disciplinary action,
including removal of posting privileges.
- Threads regarding sensitive topics sometimes get heated, however, members are still expected to remain calm and respectful, even in topics they are passionate about.
- Taunting and/or name calling are not acceptable for any reason, this goes for new members and more established members alike. Our forum contains both a email and Private Message subsystem, and members are expected to use these features to work out their personal differences in private, otherwise use the “Report this post to a moderator” link that appears in the lower right corner of every message.
- Members shall not post any message nor start any thread for the purpose of ridiculing another member whether expressed or implied. This includes responding in kind to comments that are perceived to be inflammatory.
- Posting material outside the stated topic (also known as thread crapping) is not permitted. Any message that distracts from the stated topic or causes the discussion to go off-topic should be avoided or ignored. Such messages are subject to removal.
*Additional notes:
- The mods do not have the time or resources to read every message, and probably some entire threads never get reviewed. Therefore, if anyone sees something that they think is inappropriate, please report the offence to the moderators. Do not assume something is acceptable because it hasn’t been addressed yet, the forum rules are defined in the
FAQ
- Although all members click on the button that says they have read and understood the rule for the forums, most probably haven’t. New members take notice of how the existing members behave, so we shouldn’t be surprised when new members replicate the behavior of the more established members. For this reason
all members are expected to keep their messages within the policy expressed in the FAQ, and expanded upon here.
- Moderators sometimes place warning in messages when the content requires editing. These comments serve not only as a warning to the offending poster, but also serve as a reminder to other members about what is and is not allowed. Members should
never remove moderator comments from their messages unless previous permission has been obtained.
- TechIMO does not allow the use of "signatures" in the forums. "Sigs" add unnecessary clutter and distract from the topic. Members may manually type their name at the end of their messages if they choose, but the use of catch phrases, graphics, or hyperlinks as a signature is strictly prohibited.
The
TechIMO FAQ isn't that long or complicated, please take a few minutes to review the entire FAQ page.
I am embarrassed that there is even a need for this thread. Most violations of this nature seem to take place in the Community forum, although the other forums are certainly not immune to it. The Community is place where members can kick back and have a little fun, however if it continues to be a source of embarrassment for our site due to poor judgment and abusive conduct, it’s future will be in jeopardy. Let’s all work together to make sure that TechIMO remains both good source of tech support,
and a fun place to hang out with friends.
Thank you for your anticipated cooperation, and goodbye to those that choose not to comply.
*addendum (09-01-2002)
The "location field" in the
user's profile should be used to indicate the member's actual geographic location, or it should be left blank. Due to some recent and past instances of members using the location field to display other material, some of which is not consistent with forum policy, all members are requested to use that field only for it's intended purpose, which is to indicate where they are from.
