Chemistry people, please help
Alright, I absolutely despise this class, but anywho, chem 101.
Need to figure out the effective nuclear charge of an atom.
Alright, I know Zeff = Z- S, where Z equals the number of protons in the atom and S is the average number of electrons between the nucleus. Getting Z is simple, but I cant seem to calculate S. How do you calculate, or who knows, maybe im way off. PLEASE HELP.

If it doesn't help, another member chooco has been doing a lot of chest pounding regarding chemistry skills so pm, and you'll probably get what you need and a little more.

I'm packing to move right now and just ran across my old "CRC Handbook". Shesh, and to think I started out as a Chemistry Major. (Got kicked out of Chemistry "Organic Chemistry, Semi-micro Quantative Analysis" 2nd semester for explosives manufacturing!

BTW, had something to do with 5 molar NH4OH (Ammonium Hydroxide) mixed with red Iodide crystals.  | |

I don't mind chemistry, but i'm only doing it at a grade 12 level, it maybe alot harder at university.

| Well, actually, I was attending NMMI and somebody stole the quart jar we had.  They painted another person's floor with it (he was in the infirmary for 2 weeks while they picked the flooring out of his legs).  They also painted the PA system with it during the night so when reville was played the next morning, it was a blast.  '  '

my friend's in organic chem and he says it's really interesting 
only thing jerkin him around is English....they make science kids take english (considered an art) but they don't force art kids to take a science 
i personaly like dealing with inorganic.
