Just curious about warez and timo
Hey
ive just been reading some threads and some have been closed due to warez links. I just wondered why is warez bad in this forum?
Does somebody from the government watch over these forums or is it just this forum and people don't like it?
im not saying warez are good and the mods do a good job of controlling it , but i wondered if techimo would be in trouble(legally)if warez links weren't controlled here? |

I believe it has something to do with the public image of the forum...
I regard it as a good policy to keep illegal matters away. ´There are plenty of forums that deal with such things available.

There were voicings of the (web)site owner's legal obligation / responsibility for the site's contents... I think this was on another site. IOW, if there are loads of links to warez, etc. allowed to remain on the site, the owner could get nobbled.
Not entirely sure if this is actually true of a discussion forum, but nevertheless, for a web site owner wishing to promote & run a respectable site, it does nothing for the site's image & credibility if there are links to pirated material on there.
Besides, this is Scott's house & he makes the rules. If you can't live by them, then on yer bike, son
At the end of the day, it ain't a public free-for-all: we're 'guests'

There are plenty of warez fora out there so if anyone is interested they can always go there.
That said, I think apart from legal/moral implications, it would invite all sorts of visitors which would really cause chaos here.
This Forum is for people to voice their technical opinions/advice on a wide variety of technology (primarily computers) related subjects. It is not a trading place for illegal/pirated software/games.
I fail to see the relevance of warez on this forum.

ROFLMAO, just do a search here on file-sharing apps. WTF do you think they are sharing?

Warez software is undesirable for a number of reasons, and ISP's as well as website hosts often have rules about them. For all we know the hosts of this site may have such rules, and the admins are merely complying to remain within the law.
But I think it is deeper than that. TechIMO isn't built to allow flagrant illegal practices to occur, but to be a techinical community, and so the admins have devised a set of "standards" which reflect their own moral / ethical / legal standpoints in which technical viewpoints can be "safely" shared. If we want to be allowed to participate in this site, we agree to abide by those standards. If we don''t, we will be banned from further participation.
Just like if you come to my house, I have rules for behaviour you are to follow. If you lay a hand on my daughter, I will kill you. This is a standard my dau's b/f's have grown to acknowledge (I only have to show them the neat rows of dirt mounds in the backyard!)
Cheers
Mick
