Summer Job Prospect

I have been offered the chance to work with a design team on making a computer game. Not sure what my role would be, it would most likly be making sure everyone else es there bit and the documentation and stuff.

Problem 1: I will be preparing for uni at the same time(hopefully).

Problem 2: The game will be highly religous and based around the adventures of Paul(the bible dude(boy, those 12 years of R.E payed of)). I'm not highly religous and find the entire idea of god a little silly(IMO)

Problem 3: The people i might work with play around alot and act like silly buggers and i am wondering if i should waste my time. But they are gettting payed so they might fly straight.

Problem 4: I would love to get some experance in the fields of motion cap and stuff liek that and 3D STUD MAX which we will be using(as soon as we get the cash to get the equip).

Any ideas?

1. Not only that, but getting JOB experience no questions asked.. regardless of what game you worked on.. its in field experience so to speak. Nothing talks more than a reputation, many times exceeding the piece of paper from a uni (the piece of paper really comes in handy later where most people w/o a degree peak, the degree will carry you higher)

2. Well that is your opinion, and you are entitled to it. However, I would think it best while on the job to tell your peers their core beliefs and everything they follow is silly, you will probably find yourself w/o a job very soon, and possibly even bruised.

3. You'll find most programmers are "silly little buggers" we stare at screens and sit at a desk for long hours... wtf do you expect? LOL not to mention... whats wrong with that?!?!?!

4. why is this a problem? If anything you will be around people using this software and maybe able to pick up tidbits of info from them on how to get started yourself.

You will probably start out doing documentation, maybe some testing. Documentation will help, many jobs require this skill (ugh it sucks!!) and will be great for a resoooome, testing is the same, not AS helpful but anythign helps

Primary point, respect their beliefs and opinions they are allowed them just as you are.
I too am not a religious fellow, but I dont agree with criticizing those that are...

Hey, TBC, nice opportunity!

What are these ppl like - can you trust them not to blame you at every turn for every problem? Are you actually doing any programming with them? If not, they can act like silly buggers (normal for game programmers anyway ) all they like and no prob to you if you can still do your bit.

Is it likely to affect your chances of doing well at uni? If so, turn it down - uni's important if you can get it. If you can defer study and do this though, why not? If it's paid, that is...

I wouldn't think the "religious" nature of the game should be a prob, provided you can work with these people. Bear in mind they may try to convert you to their way of thinking, but hey, that's part of being a Christian anyway! I do it meself! Just take it with a pinch of salt, although it's probably worth thinking about what they say... (oops, not preaching here, mick! ) Just be prepared

Anyway, if your circumstances can fit it without changing the direction you had planned completely (unless you want to, of course), I say give it a shot.

What do your parents think? That's an important consideration, too, believe it or not... Any current g/f's to consider?

That's my opinion Cat
Cheers
Mick

Thanks for all your suggetions, when i was worriod about them playing silly buggers is they do it now at school. They sit around all day and work on personal projects, school work comes second to things like a program that tells MSN what the time is and what you are playing in WINAMP. Now this program is a good idea but grade 12 should come first.

Playing silly buggers is fine but at the right time.

On the job experance front programming isn'te really what i want to do, I want to move into corprate policy and public policy maybe do a degree in either french or jap. If not those area production of games or computer related stuff. I was thinking of offering my services as a simi-producer to this game. I shouldn't take up too much of my time so i think uni is in no matter what and its funded by this dude so i doubt i would make enough money to live of(My internet bill is now $100 a month, thats half my pay at my current job)

On a differant point i have no problem with others beliefs but to me it doesn't make sense. And i dont see why if they can say that jesus is the messieh and god exists i cant say that i think its all nonsense, itsMO. Same as there beleif in chrst is their opinion.

If you turn up for work wearing your bunny ears and bobtail. Your job description may entail more than you ever imagined.
