Megadeth Calls it Quits?

I heard today that the singer/songwriter for the long time metal band Megadeth, Dave Mustaine, has called it quits. I guess he hurt his arm in an accident in January and may not be able to play guitar anymore.

This is a sad day for some of us metal fans (not that I really consider Megadeth metal, but some say they helped start the genre). Dave Mustaine is one of my personal favorite songwriters and musicians and near the top of both lists.

I got to meet the band (sans Marty Friedman) in October last year when their tour with Iced Earth passed near by. An old drummer of thiers, Chuck Behler moved into my area a while back and my band (being 100% Megadeth fans) were quick to befriend him. He got us on the bus and even got one of our demos into Dave Ellefson's hands (who called back the next day expressing interest and requesting more of our originals).

Well, maybe no one else cares, but I'd just like to express my sorrow at this recent developement. More information can be found at MTV News

That is a shame. While I never got into Megadeath, I do appreciate what they did for metal.
Now, tell us some more about your demo's and D. Ellefson's deal

As if all this crap in the middle east isn't enough, now this? And no, I'm not being sarcastic...Megadeth has long been one of my favorite bands. This sucks. And it must suck even more so for Dave not being able to play...that's harsh.

I only got into a few of their tunes and am kind of picky about what I like of theirs. It is too bad that they broke up.

That's Horrible. And I just read somewhere of a possible reunion with Metallica. I'm a Monster Metallica fan (ever since Kill 'em all) But Megadeath never left there Hard sound, Dave kept pounding out the heavy stuff, while other bands played radio friendly stuff. This is a loss. Best of luck to him.

Well, we were never offered a deal, Dave E just expressed interest in our music. We had heard something about them looking for band for a label. I haven't heard anything since. As far as I know, Mike (our singer/songwriter) hasn't sent anything more through Chuck to them. For all I know the whole thing past the demo handoff was a farce on someone's part. Who knows with these things?

I definitely wish Dave the best in his recovery. If ever lost the ability to play guitar, or any of the other instruments I play for that matter, my life would severely diminish in quality. It's good that he has his family to look forward to. I'm not that old yet.

I should also clarify my classification of Megadeth as not being metal was worded badly. They are indeed metal, but my definition of metal is more like ummmm, that really really hard stuff that I can't listen to. :P Megadeth, Metallica, Iced Earth, etc are all hard rock to me. Just my opinion on that one though for sure.

I've been a fan for years. I'm really sorry to hear that.

I just saw this on fark right before I came here, had to let a friend of mine know about that as he is probably the biggest metal head there is.
I really liked megadeth too and dave is just amazing. I agree with zenyo, that's one thing you gotta love is they didn't bow down, kept playing what they like.

OK, I'll admit it. My first thought when I saw the title was, "Not, surprising, after listening to their last couple of albums."

But then I saw this:

Quote:
he hurt his arm in an accident in January and may not be able to play guitar anymore.
Now that blows. I still love their old stuff, and consider "Rust in Peace" one of the greatest guitar albums of all time. Dave's a great guitarist and songwriter, even if I don't consider their newer stuff up to par.

I hope he makes a full recovery. Could you imagine being Dave Mustaine and not being able to play the guitar?

Seems like all my favorite bands have broken up....Primus has lost another drummer, Zack left Rage Against the Machine, Newstead left Metallica and Hetfield was in rehab last I heard.
