Ever attended a protest?
So I'm planning on heading to Kananaskis, Alberta in June to join the G-8 protest.
Have you ever attended a large protest before? If so, where and why?
Me you ask?
I was at the FTAA protest in Quebec City, the OAS protest in Windsor, and the G-20 meeting in Ottawa.

Hmm... so close to home. I would like to join the protest. I wish I researched this earlier. Do you have some links to some more info.

The second link has a lot of information regarding the actual protest, as well, it provides a list of things to bring.
I'll be there to protest the role that the G-8 countries play in exploiting workers and 3rd world economies, while producing outrageous profits for corporations. If you want a good book to read, try Naomi Klein's No Logo. It analyzes the role that corporations have upon the social, political, educational, and employment landscape of North America.
I'll post some more info later. Kinda busy with a philosophy paper right now. |

OK, off topic a little but a funny story.
I've got my two boys with me on a weekend in Wash. DC. We head over to the White House, and a security guard comes and starts chatting thru the fence, seems he saw my Eagles hat and was a Philly fan. He's loaded for bear - I say what gives? - oh there's some protest coming - I start looking around, and mounted police are arriving, bus loads of cops are driving up. I'm like holy cr*p? - I ask the guy - is this like something really serious? He says he don't know, but they always get ready for everything. OK, we'll hang out, maybe we'll be on CNN. He tells me they're supposed to try and chain themselves to the Whitehouse gates, and that isn't allowed.
Now in the distance - start hearing chants 'what do we want, Equity, when do we want it NOW!! - the kids and I kinda slink down towards the end of the block - and guess what comes walking up the street - a bunch of Philipino WWII veterans - you guessed it all in their 70's - I'm like holy cow, the security guys are smiling at each other, nervously, I spot my fellow Eagles fan, he's just shaking his head.
They evidently wanted some Veterans benefits (they're deserving I'm sure) - but it was a funny sight, all these riot police etc, and up comes the demonstration with walkers, canes, and portable oxygen tanks. We left right then, it never made CNN.

Never have and never will
And i have no sympathy for people who get their heads bashed in by the cops when they are throwing stones and trashing stores and resturants.
