Mid East Politics

What will the current military incursions into Palestinian territory bring:

For the Israelis?
and
For the Palestinians?

Will it bring peace and stability?
or
Will it increase the resistance and the attacks?

Will it weaken the Palestinian resistance? Or strengthen their commitment and resolve?.
Is Sharon playing with the future of both peoples in that region? Or is Arafat doing it?.
Do people, anywhere on earth, have the right to fight for their land and independence?
Is the violence due to a denial of statehood? Or are these simply the actions of evil and crazy madmen ?.

What sources (news, media) can we trust? Which ones are bias and which ones are not? How do we evaluate this?.

Just some points I would be interested in discussing.

I hope we can discuss this in peace . I would like to ask the mod’s to keep a close eye on this thread. I was disappointed to see the ‘Arafat’ thread deteriorate, it could have continued in a productive manner. If anyone has the urge to post emotional and provocative ideas and opinions please avoid this thread. <-- Sounds pathetic after my behaviour in one of the previous mid east threads.

This war will continue, IMO, until one group essentially slaughters the other; or the UN steps in to stop it (unlikely.)

Negotiation will never provide more than a temporary respite.

Why? Because neither faction will ever "...love thy neighbor as thyself." Their respective religions/leaders/etc. do not promote this concept, from what I can see. Hatred is promoted from both sides.

Israel may be able to force "peace" over Palestine; but it will always degrade into more or less what we have now.

Yep.
Interesting "Western Propaganda", isn't it?

I thinks so to. I can't see both sides becoming best buddies anytime soon, if ever....

I watched a documentary on the CBC a little while ago. They had a palestinian boy meet an Israeli boy and they became friends during the time they spent together. The met, talked, wrestled. Everything a couple of childhood friends would do.

They later had them meet 2 years later and they refused to talk to each other. Why? Because their societies are indoctrinating them to hate each other. Until their respective societies change, the violence will continue.

However, neither side is innocent. Isreal has violated every aspect of the Geneva convention with their occupation, but that's beside the point.

Irrespective of anything else, the true problem lays in their respective societies and until they are changed, there's really no hope for peace. IMO.

Hmmm...This part bothers me.

A foreign country invades you, with the intention of killing you and taking over some of your land. Instead, you beat them back, kill them and take some of their land. Then some a$$holes in Switzerland tell you you must give it back? (I know, I know. I'm being allegorical here.)

What's wrong with this picture?
