I just got some new blues tunes, which I love.I was wondering what other blues lovers listened to, maybe I'm missing something. I like Kenny Wayne Shepard, Stevie Ray Vaughn,Arc Angels (Double Trouble with Charlie Sexton),Robert Cray, B.B.King. Anyone have something they like better than this. I'm always looking for new music

SRV is great... I like some Jimi
Rusty should get in on this, he's a blues lover
Just in the past year got into Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf ... I'm more into Electric Blues...
John lee hooker I've just recently found and is pretty good as well

Hey vass, thanks for the intro

BC, the best suggestion I could make is have a look at Alligator Records
These Folks are passionate about contemporary Blues.

Have some great Sampler CDs with plenty of great stuff on em.
I've got lots of their CDs.

Like vass, I'm a fan of electric blues, so SRV, Jimi, etc.

Also like jazz style blues, [some the bands at Alligator play this] eg: Little Charlie and the NightCats
Screaming self indulgent Guitar eg: Aussie Dave Hole
Morbid Pommy Blues eg: John Mayall, 60's Fleetwood Mac
Texas Boogie eg: earlier and later [not 80s] ZZ Top
R+R Style eg: Black Crowes

Also enjoy Louisiana Zydeco [probably more a 'Roots' style music]

If you have just discovered the Blues, then its about time!

Whatever you find enjoy! Cheers Rusty.

Blues

Hi, I'm new here, but your blues question couldn't escape my glance.

There's a loaded question! For that Texas feel, try Freddie King, Lightin Hopkins, or the most influential Texan of all: Blind Lemon Jefferson.

Good modern choices might be Doug McLeod, Janiva Magness, Max Bangwell, Kim Wilson and/or his Thunderbirds (early stuff with Stevie's brother and mentor), Junior Watson, the Mighty Flyers, Paul Rischell & Annie Raines. If you can find anything by John Miller, buy it (maybe an old LP from his 1970s sessions); he interprets everyone from Charlie Patton to Dock Boggs to Jobim - amazing musician.

Oh, can't forget Rev. Robert Wilkins, Skip James, Son House, Funny Papa Smith (hilarious) or - going modern again - Little Walter Jacobs. His guitar players formed much of the basis for modern electric blues guitar backup.

Just MHO; hope this keeps your ears excited for awhile!

I've always been a fan of the blues.

One of my personal favorites is Jelly Roll Morton.
Of course he goes way, way back...

I assumed BRAINCHILD was familiar with the classic artists of the blues, so I suggested some modern artists I like.

BTW, BRAINCHILD is familiar with Arc Angels, so I assume he is also aware of Storyville, another project that featured Double Trouble. "Piece of Your Soul" is quite good.

Blues in the north?

Jellyroll was a sight slicker on the piano than Skip James or Bukka White (who really just tinkled and comped) or - did you know - Lightnin' Hopkins. Then again, there was the piano/guitar duo Leroy Carr & Scrapper Blackwell.

While we're swingin', we mustn't leave out Big Bill Broonzy, Louis Jordan (WWII-time) or - hey! - six-stringer extraordinaire Memphis Minnie. Which reminds me, if you can find anything anywhere by Del Rey, buy it. If you don't like it, I'll be happy to take it off your hands.

Back to the present: Susan Tedeschi is a fine young buckette - sings and writes just great.

Northfield, eh? Is the Reub still there? Tiny's? The Q-uality Bakery?
