Man, What would the U.S. do if Canada wasn't around? :)
lol... Canada is too nice, IMO. http://www.canada.com/national/story...-664D47BBAEE7}
Especially after the U.S. is making it it's goal to take down the Canadian softwood lumber industry... http://www.canada.com/national/story...-9B016BD8DD88} Quote: |
"We have signed a free trade agreement with them, they want to have our oil and they want to have our gas, and they don't want to have our wood. They cannot choose and pick," Mr. Chrétien said in Monterrey, Mexico, where he and Mr. Bush attended a conference on development aid.
| lol... Quote: |
"If we were to cut off their gas and their oil they would buy a hell of a lot of softwood to heat their homes," Mr. Chrétien joked.
| This I do not get. From what I've seen & heard, Canada was more than willing to negotiate. And when they did want to negotiate, they found out that the U.S. wasn't even remotely interested in negotiating. Quote:
Max Baucus, the Montana Senator who is also chairman of the powerful Senate finance committee, insisted yesterday Canada had no interest in seriously negotiating a deal that would end the two-decade long dispute.
"I place the blame squarely on Canada," he said. "Free trade must be a two-way street to be viable and the United States is tired of being taken advantage of by Canada's forestry policy." | - Brandon

But for a single battle (I believe, Montreal), Canada is not part of the US!

I don't know. I was disappointed with what I saw on the news last night. The Canadian politicians and industry leaders were putting out valid comments and arguments on this, while the U.S. guys were simply bangin' on the chests. Which can only get them so far.
Actually, I'm hoping Canada does win at WTO and NAFTA.

I've always known that Canada exports oil, gas and lumber to the U.S... but what does the U.S. export to Canada?
