Memories
What was your earliest memory of playing with a computer, and what kind was it?
I was 8 years old, with a Commador 64, the ones that hooked up to your tv set. I spent a couple of hours typing in half a page full of code, just to play a simple game.....................

I remember reading line for line out of the book for coding as well
just to watch a ball bounce back and forth across the screen... that was awesome stuff... then you start changing things to make it bounce different or faster

Pong
My first real computer was either a Commodore Vic 20 (Apple Panic and a Space Invaders type game) or a Spectrum, I can't remember now, I was about 6-7 years old |

I recall getting a Texas Instruments programmable calculator when I started uni. May not seem like much now, but this was before many PC's had come out, and state-of-the-art at the time. I was the envy of my maths tute.
My first real PC was an Amstrad - no HDD, just twin 5.25 floppies. Real heavy thing. Had some good games though.

I played some DOS game on my dad's computer in the late 80's.....it was in a castle...think it was called Castle
Next computer, win3.1...played A-10 Tank Killer - not kidding, that was what started me on that plane

When I was a kid, I'd go with my dad to his work at the university and play text-based "Hamurabi" on the mainframe that filled most of a building. I also remember him running a stack of punch cards through to print a calendar with a Snoopy picture on it created with various printed characters.
In high school I had a programming class which started with programming HP calculators and punch cards. Halfway through the class the school got Apple II computers and we could actually run our programs real-time! My dad bought a Commodore VIC 20 about then which was our first home computer. I think it had 16kb of memory and saved programs on cassette tapes.

Mine was a 386. Can't remember much about the specs, but recall playing several text based games. Had DOS for operating system, and a 'mean green' CRT...
But the ex trashed that one...
I miss it...
