Dog mauler trial---guilty!

I normally would not post about this becuase there are much bigger stories, but the dog mauling trial has come to a close and the defendants were found guilty on all 7 counts (5 for her and 2 for him) http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,48484,00.html . The reason I found this interesting was that after the trial, the victim's "life partner" and her lawyer were shown on Fox News calling for dog-control and likening it to gun control. I thought this was interesting. They pined for a ban on all dogs of "that size" and said they had no purpose in the US. They also said that apartment building owners should be more responsible and should know about problems like this. The "life partner" of the victim said she would continue with a civil case against the convicted.

Unreal outrageous story---this will make dog owners across the country tighten the reigns alittle on their extremely large dogs, Diane Whipple should not have died a horrible death like that...

Yes, a tragic story. It is sad when anyone dies, especially as needlessly and brutally as this.

I'm satisfied. When I saw (on the TV news) how their defense attorney was carrying on, all stressed out, it led me to suspect that perhaps there was some aspect of the case we weren't hearing about, and that her clients were somehow getting a bum deal.
I guess she was just doing some opportunistic grandstanding.
Not happy about her life partner calling for a ban on "dogs of that size"...but i suppose we have to understand her grief and horror at her loss.
But at least it puts the word out to the kind of idiots who raise their dogs to be vicious. (Hey, I've got a friend with a pit bull that was raised with love...sweetest, funniest dog you ever saw! )

my cousin had a doberman (spellage?) and it was the most protective dog ever. if you ever raised your hand to him, the dog would growl at you and get in position to strike.

sweet dog

haha, I want a doberman...we had one as a kid, very protective but wouldn't attack children like rotties or pitbulls

Dobermans look lean and mean but are friendly and protective to their masters.

Personally, I like the Cocker Spaniel/Golden Retreiver types. The sausage dogs are nice too- long with short legs.

Most dog attacks here are punished by death. A man jumped a fence into my friends backyard which had clear warnings about the dog which was chained up all over the place. The man walked into the dogs area it bite him the council forced them to kill the dog becuase it was dangerous to others.

The dog hadn't been of its 25 metre chain in years (except for walks where it was on a differant chain).

Some things i just dont see why they do it.

Warthog mentioned something interesting, why do some dogs feel threatened in the presence of children? Is it because the kids come running at them to play?

That could be a reason, We took my dog in from a abusive household and she isn't "good" around small children or people with beards. Needless to say that the previous owner had a beard and used to let his child abuse the dog.

I think they learn things and just trust what they have learnt.
