Well, after seeing the pictures.....No they shouldn't have that size of a dog in an apartment. Some people are just plain stupid.

so i guess we all learned something here
according to the law, in order for us to be safe AND not go to jail we do the following:

-if a guy comes on your private property you have to knife him yourself (so the dog doesn't get blamed)
-shooting him will alert the police
-you now have to unofficialy bury the body of the intruder somewhere nobody will find it

funny how the law contradicts itself.

I agree that not everyone should have certain dogs.

Heck, not every should have a dog period. I swear, EVERY single person on my street has either a black lab or golden retriever.....they can't control those!!!!!!!!!

My mutt, Molly, is quite protective against other dogs when she's on a leash BUT will not harm a person - ever. Kids - no problem. They can tug at her, play with her teeth....haha, I do that, she doesn't do a thing. Gentelist dog on earth, 'cept when it comes to game hunting (squirrels, rodents) and other dogs (while she's on a leash for the most part). Anyhew, the point is, she obeys me just like that. I snap my fingers, she stops whatever thing she's doing. This is all without physical abuse, she was trained and lived this way since we got her when she was 3 months old.

I know for a fact that if I got one of these dogs when they were puppies, they would be 110% obedient. All it takes is some command, tell the dog who's boss...even as simple as going where you want to go when it's on a leash. It's too bad that there really isn't anything we can do about this (stopping others from getting large, dangerious dogs).

Interesting at that website:

Quote:
The breed is gentle and affectionate with his family, including children. He should always be tolerant and gentle with them. A dog that shows aggression towards children is again a dog of insecurity and unstable character.
Quote:
The dogo should not show aggression towards a puppy. This is a dog that lacks confidence, in that he sees a puppy as a threat. This in neither typical or desirable behavior of the breed. As the dogo is a confident dog, he can often be seen taking "abuse" from a younger animal. Many people would lead you to believe this older animal is "soft" or "cowardly", but in truth, he is displaying his self security and in the process in boosting the confidence of that younger animal. A parental correction from an adult to a pup should not be viewed as aggressive behavior.
This is an interesting dog......I was not aware of it before.

A little too "bull-ish" for me, I prefer the lean-ness of a doberman

There are some odd facts in this case---
The 2 responsible people were attorneys who had recently adopted a Pelican Bay (highest security prison in CA) prisoner who was raising the dogs as killers...
The case was moved to Los Angeles after inadmissable evidence was released in SF that these 2 owners were actually ---get this---having sex with the 2 dogs and had captured it on videotape...WHA???
I guess they were having a difficult time getting jurors after that one...

Chooco:
No you shouldn't really rub thier nose in it. Would you rub your kids nose in a puddle of piss if he accidentally wet the bed? I hope not...... What i do is hold them by the collar and take them to the spot, I then point at the spot and tell them NO! in a firm authoritative manner. Then you immediately take them outside. They won't get it the first few times, but they will eventually. There are ways of house training dogs and puppies, but It's long and detailed so I won't burden anyone with it now. Keep in mind that dogs are not as dumb as people think they are. Most dogs that "go" on the carpet have a good reason.... They are stressed, need attention, not properly trained, sick, no one is home to let them out. As a dog gets older, he learns to hold it longer. Puppies should be taken out as soon as they eat. With most dogs it's food in-food out. Take this into account when owning a house dog.

You must remember though that there is no point in showing the dog the accident and leading it outside unless it is recent, according to Harry's Practise(australian pet show) that is. They dont put two and two together unless its a recent occurance.

I really dont think that any of these dogs are to blame. Seriously what where these people thinking, " Lets bring a dangerous hunting animal into my house and it will be well behaved and totally ignore its instincts to hunt"

I blame people.
