The dog hadn't been of its 25 metre chain in years (except for walks where it was on a differant chain).

Some things i just dont see why they do it.
That is a crock of $H!%. If someone jumps a fence into private property it is their own freaking fault. The purpose of having dogs in many cases if for protection.

I can't believe how stupid the law is becoming...
Just like here you can legally shoot someone who is trying to break into your home if they haven't gotten in yet, but once they are in you cannot shoot unless they are threating your life... So if they came in and took your stuff but were not attacking you....you have to let them....

So, in my home, I will shoot through the door before anyone gets in...

Did you here about the guy that got up on a roof to break in through a skylight? He fell through the roof and sued the owners for having a faulty roof and won!

Now If you have a sign thats says, "Beware Dangerous Dog" you can get charged if the dog bites someone becuase you "knew" the dog was dangerous! Its stupid!

I don't know all the details of the case but.
The owner was walking the dog's and couldn't control them on leashes?? If she couldn't then she shouldn't have been out walking both at same time.
What did owner do just watch and scream at the dog's?
She should have been able to pull at least one of them off the victim. Also some people have the redneck mentality of, I got the biggest meanest dog in town.wanna see. Did the dumba$$ owners train them to be mean and such and lived in apts??. Some dog's I just don't trust like Pitbull's, I've had one that I rescued (found in the wood's, it was a hog dog and had been tusked) and after spending almost $2,000.00 on emergency vet (and then on my other friendly dog which pitbull attacked) I had to give it away. It loved people and wanted to be lapdog ( I still wouldn't trust it like my other dog,s) whoops off topic. oh well another story for later.

Personally I can not stand any dog. Everyone in my family ( wife, 4 kids, and myself) have been bitten atleast once by a dog. My oldest was bitten a couple of times, the 12 yr old twice I think. My 8 yeard old was bitten twice, once it was right above the eye, 1/2 lower and he would have lost his eye. The 4 year old 1 time, same as the 8 yeard old though right above the eye.

Me being the fair type of person decided that we would get a dog, well we had the dog for about 3 months when it got overly excited at the kids. It started to jump on the 12 year old, biting and scratching at his head. The dog was gone in less than 2 hours. The neighbors called the police cuse I did what I had to to get the dog off of my son. I told the cop what I had done. His response was that if it was him he would have shot it. Neighbors did not know what to think when they heard that.

I believe they were English mastiffs... One looked like a brendal.

I didn't take the time to read everyone else's posts, but I think dogs of that size do not belong in apt. buildings.... I have a Tibetan mastiff, and if I lived in an apt, I would not have her. A small non violent dog is a good pet for such a small space, but big dogs need elbow room, and being cramped in an apartment, with another big dog and two owners will make them a bit nervous. I don't know all the facts to this case. I don't know if the dogs were teased, the owners sicked the dogs on her, or if the dog was just in the mood for blood, but I do know this.... IF YOU ARE GOING TO OWN A DOG OF ANY BREED, YOU SHOULD KNOW WHAT THEY'RE PERSONALITY IS LIKE! Do the research on the breed. Just because you want a big dog, doesn't mean you can handle them. I agree with the jury on the counts except for the 2nd degree murder. (That tells me that the owners attacked that lady with the dog) I believe a lessor punishment was available. Involuntary manslaughter. Because I don't think she knew what she was doing when she got the dogs. She was obviously in way over her head. Those dogs need a house with a fenced in yard, not an apartment with an open door...........

(Sorry for the rant)

EDIT TO MY ABOVE POST

The breed was a Presa Canario: Here is a link to information about that breed. PLEASE NOTE THE FIRST SENTENCE UNDER THE PICTURE!!!
<edit> Opps forgot to post the link....
http://www.dogocanario.org/

http://www.dogocanario.org/art5.htm affirms my judgement in this NOT being a dog suitable for apartment dwelling.

This was a huge story here in the Bay Area. We got much more information on this trial than anyone else. I can tell you the defendants are some serious cold blooded people. There was plenty of evidence of the woman laughing as her dogs would lunge at people and try to bite them. They even went so far as to blame the victim for her own death. They said she should have closed her apt door faster or ran faster from the dogs. The dog owners are real S.O.B.s. They both deserved 2nd degree murder, it's too bad they couldn't pin it on him too.

I heard about that Out. They said they had letters that were written by the husband complaining about the woman that got attacked.

They also said that the owners of the dogs were very arrogant in the court room.
