Does Internet.com own Yahoo?
It sure seems like their tactics when I receive this email this morning. Quote:

Automatically forward your Yahoo! Mail to another email account -- even another Yahoo! address!
Send larger attachments, now up to 5MB instead of the free 1.5MB limit.
Send email without the Yahoo! promotional text at the bottom.*
Sign up today and SAVE 33%
Subscribe before April 24th and get the first year of service for just $19.99. That's 33% off the regular service fee of $29.99.
Remember, if you do not subscribe by April 24, 2002, you will no longer be able to access your Yahoo! Mail messages by POP or at another email address.
Sincerely,
The Yahoo! Mail Team
| Looks like I'll have to move my junkmail address to Hotmail, since I don't want to be required to go to their site to get my email.
$30 a year is a bit steep for enhanced email service |

How do you now access your Yahoo "junkmail" acct without going to their site?
If you switch to Hotmail wont you have to goto their site to check it?
This announcement tells you that you will no longer be able to use Yahoos pop3 forwarding service to pick up your email from your primary pop3 and access it in your Yahoo acct, this was a good feature for folks whose ISP didnt allow remote access and needed to pick up their primary popmail while they were on the road, but most do now...

There. That's what I think of Yahoo. Strictly an opinion. |

right now I use OE6 to access my Yahoo email with the following settings.
POP server: pop.mail.yahoo.com
SMTP server: smtp.mail.yahoo.com
I can send and receive Yahoo email without having to go to the webpage (at least until April 24th )
PS - I already have 2 Hotmail email boxes that I check with OE6 also, they use IMAP access and OE6 will automatically configure itself to check Hotmail boxes, just by entering your email address in the add email account wizard.

Since I'm among those with Yahoo accounts which don't think charging $30 is a good idea, I'm looking for another free email provider with POP3 and SMTP access. Any suggestions ? Hotmail ?!
Also, do you aware of this petition ? Sign it to help us all Quote: |
We, the undersigned, are signing this petition to protest the new Yahoo pricing structure in relation to several of the services most popular features such as Yahoo Groups, Yahoo Mail, and GeoCities. While we agree and understand that it is the primary goal of any company, including Yahoo, to expand their services and to make money, we feel that Yahoo is deliberately targeting users who have no choice or option in using Yahoo services. Yahoo Clubs, Yahoo Groups, Yahoo Mail, and GeoCities are all services that, once signed up for and established, are very difficult and extremely inconvenient to migrate from Yahoo to another service. We believe that Yahoo is deliberately targeting these users in total disregard to our needs and desires.

Been using Yahoo for years as my main account with very little spam. The hassle of changing an address that I have used for 5 years is not worth thinking about at the moment.
Thanks for the petition link ND.

Even Hotmail keeps spamming me for buying their enhanced service. Dudes, the days of free anything are near.
