My 97 Civic, manufactured in Canada of >50% domestic content, is considered a domestic car. I always tell people I wuld never dream of driving a foreign car.

We just got a car flown in from germany. It is 100% foreign, but that doesn't really matter there are no purely australain car companys. And the one that started here (now owed by GM) Only makes one model of car here and thats their sedan, the holden commodore.

is it foreign parts or foreign attitude towards if it works
US cars used to be good then they started that trend of throw away cars in the 70s, that is when the japanese came in with cars that LAST and cost little money. US car quality never really recovered after that..... i plan on buying a volkswagon when i can afford it |

e.g. A Taurus is 95% US/Canadian parts content. An Explorer 75% Us/Can, etc...
you can check sites like US Stuff for more info like this... http://www.usstuff.com |

Actually I've always been a huge proponent for buying domestic cards... I've always owned GM cars (my whopping 3)...
however my current car a 99 Malibu (bought it used last year) has not impressed me in the slightest. I've had a lot of troubles with it... granted I've spent very little money on the repairs, my dealership has been great... but the fact is I'd rather not know how good my dealership is about fixing cars I'd rather not have to take it in for repairs!!
However, whenever I've taken my car in I've always gotten a free rental.. and have had a chance to drive some pretty cool cars
Got to drive a nice Chevy truck, a dodge Ram... some crappy cars too but hey the good ones were well worth it

Yea, it's just a crap shoot nowadays (no pun intended) whether you get a winner or a lemon. I remember my first cars, my Honda left me on the side of the road twice by 160k miles (major repairs not including clutch, CV joints, etc). My first Ford never needed anything replaced when sold at 138K miles, and it had a turbo (did replace the timing belt around 80k due to lesson learned with the Honda). It had a Mazda engine built in Michigan with a Ford transmission and it was the first or second year they built them. I figured that would be a car I would have trouble with, but didn't have any. Go figure...

I like all kinds of cars...but I will NEVER buy a Ford vehicle after what happened to a fellow RC racer. Here's what happened: Last summer, he bought some kind of limited/special edition Mustang for $35,000CAN and he brought to the track. It was SWEEEET!! The very next week, he came to the track in a dealer loaner Focus, his Mustang was giving him all kinds of trouble (engine light, tranny noises and I forget what else) and was in the shop. 3 weeks later, he shows up with a Honda Prelude. Apparently, he got fed up with the Ford dealer because they couldn't/wouldn't fix it and was giving him the run around, so he asked for a refund...the owner of the dealership says "Okay Bob, I'll give you $15,000CAN for it" "WHAT?!?! I paid $35,000 for it less than a month ago!!" "With all the problems we're having with it, THAT'S ALL IT'S WORTH!" "!@#$% @!#!@$%@!!%@$" and a few more choice words. So he towed it to a Honda dealership and traded it in for a Prelude. To add insult, the Honda mechanics fixed the Mustang. You can cross Ford off my list of cars that I would consider buying....too bad too cause the Mustang SVT and Saleens are niiiiice!!
