OUCH! $9 for cigs...

Just went to the store to grab a pack of cigs... Well, I just about pooped my pants when I saw the price!! 20 minutes before I got to the store a pack of cigs (in Alberta anyways...) went up $2.30!!!! That means roughly $9.00 for a pack of 25 cigs at most stores...

Oh well, this last few days I've been working towards quitting, kind of trying to make myself sick of cigs, or so I'm trying to anyways..

ya ya ya... I know it's bad and I should quit, and I WILL!! But all these taxes on cigs had damm well better be going towards health care or something similar... something good...

anyways, just my little rant for the week...

cheers!

That's an absurd amount.. I'm paying $2.50 US..
If they're going to try to force people to quit by taxing them to death, the money should go to treatment, medication, and counseling to help them quit..

just my honest oppinion.

The incredible taxes on cigarettes is nothing but opportunistic EXTORTION!!! Think they're going towards a cure for cancer?
Just 18% of it, and that's a big, fat MAYBE. The majority pays for remarkably overbloated anti-cig advertising canpaigns, plus the "office supplies" (i.e., the office Ferrari, the office Chateau, etc.) of the G'ment-sponsored organizations who dream up these taxes in the first place!

I'm certainly not saying that cigarettes are good for ya, or they're a swell thing to give to children, but there are people who either will not, or can not quit! Thus, EXTORTION.

btw, if anyone is interested, I can tell you how to bypass the entire taxation thing, and get 'em for less than $1.00/pack. Thing is, you have to make 'em yourself...but then again, it's a better cigarette, and far fewer chemicals.

Of course, I admit, it's far better not to smoke.

Pounds!! that's what it is... !! dah...

ya I wouldn't be surprised to find out that 90% of that price is taxes... not sure what the percentage truely is, but not too concerned either because i'm going to give it a whole-hearted effort to quit right away... gonna be rough...

and most stores don't even make much off the sale of cigarettes, they are mainly to bring customers in so they will hopefully purchase some of the other over-priced items in the store...

oh well, maybe it's part of the plan to help out our health care system by putting the extra money into HC... well, hopefully...

anyways...
gotta go fix a comp!
cyas!

I don't smoke so I cannot relate to the pains of quitting but I firmly believe that everyone, with the proper amount of self-will can quit. It is surely not impossible.
