Outdoors We Need More Punishing Drunk Driving Laws

Friday night at around 7pm, a drunk driver blew through a red light near a shopping center, hitting two cars and pushing the second car over 40 feet sideways. The 61 year old driver of the second car died at the scene of the accident. This is his third offense for DWI

I guess that three time's the charm, because this time he killed someone

He's being charged with homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle and/or reckless homicide, causing injury by intoxicated use of a vehicle, open container, and failure to obey traffic signal.

Onalaska woman dies after collision

West Salem man posts bond, faces charges in fatal accident

BTW - The judge set a cash bond of $100,000 Monday morning, and by Monday afternoon, he had posted the cash bond. I think he should have saved that money for a really good lawyer, because he's going to need it!

Personally, I hope they hang him by his "family jewels"

shouldn't he be charged with murder 2?

he knew the effects of drinking and driving. it's like setting a pipe bomb in a school then saying "i didn't know it would kill anybody"

You know our system is out for the guilty, not the innocent.
this is what would happen in our state
1. he would be out on bail
2. he would get a palimanary hearing
3. he would get a trial
4. he would get free representation
5. he would be allowed to work
6. he would be allowed to drive until sentencing
7. he would be at the prison or jail for the beginning of it at a certain date and time.
8. he would get free food, bed, cloths,
9. he would get work release if still working.
10 when he gets out he would get a check worth ? amount depending on how much time he spent there and a new place to live.

So why should our repeat affenders change when they can legally *&^%$ the system and get away with murder at the same time?

thats were our tax $'s go

You know the system is screwed up when the answer to DUI's is

1. Lower the limit
But if you will check, there are precious few accidents where the driver is anywhere near the legal limit, more like .16, .22, .36 etc

I think corporal punishment for an accident with a high alcohol content AND a Percentage Fine based on your Previous 5 years of reported income. Several other countries base fines on income.

Borrow some of those guys from Singapore, like the ones Michael Fay faced, this would change the attitude of "You can't touch me" that criminals today exhibit.

" Caning in Singapore Stirs Up a Fierce Debate About Crime and Punishment "

In the caning room he was stripped naked. He bent over and his arms and legs were fastened to an H-shaped trestle by straps. A protective covering was placed over his kidneys. A prison official, a medical officer and the caner were the only ones present. The caner wound up and, using his full body weight, struck with the 13mm-thick rattan rod, which had been soaked overnight to prevent it from splitting. Each stroke on Fay's exposed buttocks came about half a minute apart.

basing fine on salary is the worst idea EVER
it's another form of socialism

there was a story where in Sweden (or was it Switzerland?) where a retired guy who used to be an executive of a company was fine the equivalent of $120,000 USD for speeding

if that isn't BS then i don't know what is

So fining a guy $2,500 who is making $8,500 per year is just as fair as the same fine on a guy making $250,000.00 ?

Not !

Let's even the playing field a bit for the big-wigs so they don't thumb their noses at authority.

so you are saying the system should punish the successful just because they are successful?

why would you punish people for inovation? punish them for hard work? punish them for putting in overtime? why would you discourage people from being the hard workers that founded the US and Canada?

If I ever meet a drunk man driving, I will be charged for assault and injuries.

Yeah, I should, but I will probably get a worse sentence than the drunkard.

But it will happen, I'm too compulsive. (sp?)
