Körperwelten

Körperwelten (Body Worlds)

Has anyone been to this rather controversial exhibtion by Gunther von Hagen?

About 2 years ago it took place here in Vienna, I went to see it with some friends, and in all honesty it was one of the most amazing experiences. I would go again if they repeat it.

For once we had the chance to see the human body from inside, it was real and close. I thought it was great.

Many think it should be band, I can understand why. But I do not agree with them, to me it is a great educational opportunity.

For those of you who do not know what I am talking about here are some informative links:

The Institute of Plastination (organisers):
http://www.plastination.com/

The Official site for the event in the UK:
http://www.bodyworlds.co.uk/en/home.asp

An article from the Guardian (about the upcoming event in the UK):

Some photos:

What are your views on this?

Learning experience or a horror show that should be banned?
Does it allow us non-doctors a rare look into our bodies or is this a shameful way to treat the dead?

It looks like a great educational experience to me. I would go see it if I was able to.

How is this any different from the use of cadavers in medical school, other than the fact that this exibition actually preserves the bodies, and the knowledge.

Maybe he's trying to hide a double post

A bump is when a thread slips away and gets burried.

You post a bump to send it back to the top so others will see it.
Notice his bump is 24 hours after the intitial and last post.
Perfect forum protocall clubmed.

WOW, he hit it almost to the minute, I didn't notice the difference in days

I still think it's a good idea, and maybe get some schools to go thru the exhibition, they may actually learn something

I don't know if I could call it art, educational yeah you could learn something.
I wonder what the donor's would think of the use of there remain's. I'm sure a few would be suprised.

he could probably make a fortune as an embalmer though. You know there's people out there who would love to have thereselves mummified so to speak.

Wow, I didn't know that my bump was nearly 24 hours and 1 minute after the initial post, how cool am I ?

nunyadam: 90% of the bodies were donated for exactly this purpose. The people knew what was going to happen to their bodies. The ones that don't know, are unclaimed bodies (homeless etc..), which make up a small number.

I also wouldnt call it art, but I thought it was great from an educational point of view.

I wanted to take my dad there too, he's a smoker and they had this lung there, of a smoker. It was black! I wanted to show him what he is doing to his health, but he was too 'busy' at the office
