And justice for all?

Remember way back when we were facing antrax? Remember the college senior who got life in prison with no chance of parole. Well how did some psychotic child mass murderer get less time than he did? (she will have a shot at parole). That college kid shouldn't have gotten more than 10 years. He caused the college to shut down for a day. Big deal. He didn't kill a single (let alone five) human being(s). Insanity is the dumbest argument ever. Anyone who kills their children is insane. YES ANDREA YATES IS INSANE. That does not excuse her from her actions. If anything she is GUILTY by reason of insanity. Yes what the college student did was extremely stupid but after even a single year in prison, he would be no threat at all to society.

I agree. There is no justice. Our judicial system is so messed up it just disgusts me.

grrrrrr...<enter rant mode >

The legal system in this country has been made into a joke by the legal profession.

The legal profession has done this to ensure there will always be plenty of high-cost employment for lawyers. They have injected themselves into every aspect of our lives. I had a case with an outfit called "California Lawyers for the Arts" involving a dispute with a (crooked) partner in a publishing venture.
I learned the hard way that this outfit has no concern for right and wrong, their concern being to push the legal trade into the arts, and gain a stranglehold over artists. Artists who do not go along with this get squashed!

Mark S., a friend of mine, and a brilliant legal mind, refuses to take the bar. He was sickened early on by one of his legal instructors, who told the class, "If you're concerned about Justice, you're in the wrong place!" Mark thought the guy was kidding...he wasn't!

I have had five legal cases in the last seven years, and every attorney illustrated what I'm saying. Opportunistic parasites, each one of them.

Not to say there aren't good, altruistic people in the legal game, I'm sure there are!

But I've never seen one. I tell people who say they're gonna get a lawyer, sue this guy or that, etc..."by the time you're dealing with a lawyer, you've already lost. Even if you win!"

I am NOT kidding. And I'm NOT exaggerating.

The legal system in this country is a shabby ally to those who seek Justice.

Knot: Very true. I can take the word "lawyer" in your rant and replace it with doctor/dentist and it'd still be true.

The other day, my son had a small cavity and the dentist took 16 x-rays and would up billing the insurance company (Metlife) nearly $600, besides exposing a 12 year old to all that radiation.

But he made that much in less than an hour. More than lawyers.

Plus, both professions are recession-proof.

The irony of it all.

LOL, Mead!

Well, Shahani, my friend, I can go with your point to an extent, but...

Among the things I find objectionable among those who ply the legal trade is the practice of "bloating" a simple case into something much more costly that it ever should have been. This is done by over-writing an Order to Show Cause or a Response. Then they go back and forth, writing away at $300/hr...a half INCH of paper that hizzoner will never read, he only looks at the first page or so. Guess who pays for all this worthless verbiage! Not to mention phone calls back and forth....they s-t-r-e-t-c-h it out, and charge us by the inch!

Now in the case of your boy's dentist, well, I don't know why he did an entire 16-frame panel, but I bet he was looking for other cavities?

A REAL hard analogy would have been if he had drilled a whole mess of holes into the boy's (healthy) teeth, and then charged you to repair 'em all!

Here I go again...

How can we seperate natural greed (we all have some) from professional work. Any skilled, specialized, highly respected (?) tradesman will have to do this or not, depending on thier ethics. Lawyer, doctor, dentist, executive, or politition is exposed to this all the time. Worse is that this is not new, but has been part of the profession for ages. All of which contributes to concealling the crime in "common usage" malarky.

And I agree whole heartedly with KnotHead about "bloating". Not just in the legal system, but executives (Enron, K-Mart) and polititions all bloat the piss out of everything.

Heck with it, I'm getting out of this before I get sued...
