A Thank You for Mortis

I just have to say this publicly. I sent an E-mail to him last night but I feel that that is just not enough for what he has done.

A little background first. Mortis used to live in my beck of the woods and I became friends with his whole family. His brother was my best man at my wedding. Mortis is not only a team mate in UD but also in HL. He moved away a few years ago to CO, didn't hear from him until I started to play HL with his brother. The friendship started to grow again.

So here is why Mortis deserves a public Thank You. I had parts to build a computer except for the processor. I started a thread awhile back on our HL forum about needing a PII processor. Well Mortis says that he has one at his brothers house that I could use. Cool now I can build the PC. Wrong I then found out the MoBo that I had was also dead. Now in the mean time I start looking for a case ( ATX ). Again I post to the HL forum asking for a case. I had a few things that I was willing to trade for the case, Mortis sends an E-mail saying that he had one that I could have for shipping. So I send an E-mail back saying that I will not need the case for awhile cuse the MoBo that I had was no good. He then went and looked around and finds a MoBo that he says I could probably have, he just has to ask. That was 2 weeks ago. I get a package yesterday from him. Inside is an ATX case with MoBo that will support the PII that I have. This is too cool, I can now build a new PC for the wife and get it munching on UD.

All I have to say is that Mortis is a true friend that I am lucky to have. Thanks again Mortis

Hey now.... HOLD UP... honoring him? I'm not dead.... yet. LOL. Thanks Korgul. Before you install everything, check all the connections on the motherboard and make sure nothing is touching anything. I "just" put it in there... literally. So, might want to check things.

Again, thanks man. Consider it a bribe to lay off a little with your dang 357 in HL- still have no idea how you are so accurate with that thing on the run. LOL.

LOL Mortis.

I will see what I can do tonight. Maybe when I see you I will change weapons, put ya down, change back to 357.

or

If we do the teams again we could be on the dame team, that way you do not have to look out for my 357.

As far a being accurate, don't know I just aim for the head.

Then you tell me why your name is MORTIS!

Actually if you think about it, that is what you're doing when you speak of a friend and your heart is full of pride..
Pride you feel when you say,, yep he's my bud

As Auntie Surreal continues on her never ending quest to get men to admitt what they are really feeling in their hearts..

LOL. Mortis is TIMO sign, Thanatos is Gaming name, Mym is the name of one of my other comps, Gaea is the name of one of my cows.... Anyone notice a theme?

One of Piers Anthony's better series, IMO, is Entitled Incarnations (another good one is two books, first entitled Time God and cant remember the second). I especially liked his perspecitve on Death and the "Office" of Death... Fun reads. Thanatos was/is the Title of the person who held the "Office of Death" and Mortis was his trusted stead who double for a car... hehe. Mym was the actual human name of the current office holder for war and Gaea was the incarnation for Nature. Anyways- just thought I would throw that in there.. not normally a "morbid" person... just avid reader.

I don't really want to butt in on what seems a private party, but you guys all keep changing the way I think of "geeks".

I have never really thought of myself as a "geek", mind you, and you guys may not think that way either, but I first came to TechIMO (from the old systpop, as Doc calls it ) thinking it was a true "geek" site, all tech-heads and hardcore o'clockers.

We have a couple of sites like this down under (notably www.overclockers.com.au and www.techwatch.com.au), and they are true, bad-boy geek sites, swearin' and cursin' and all. Not my "cup of tea" at all.

But TechIMO - now we the have hardcore tech stuff that I love, but we also have this REAL sense of community - a tangible, open communication between sentient beings, not machine-code or moronic behaviour. I must admit I've been surprised. So I've hung around longer than I thought I would, and abandoned the down under tech sites for the sleaze pits they are (although I still lurk on occasion for local issues, I don't post much there).

Anyway, all this bandwidth is being wasted just to let me say that I think this kind of post is a tribute to the kind of people TechIMO member's are.

I'll get outa your way now. :O
