Those are pretty much my picks.

I myself have a Raleigh bike made in England, unfortunately after 110 years of bicycle manufacturing in England Raleigh are transferring the whole of the manufacture to the far east, they say they can't compete with the prices and increased quality of these far eastern bikes. This news was only announced a day or two ago.

Cannondale makes good bikes, I would also suggest Gary Fisher. They are rather pricey but very good mountain bikes.

I'll swear by GT. Very well made with excellent components.
But really, most major brands are pretty good. Look for one that has the features you want, and comfortable controls. That makes a big difference!

Definately folow Kuasimodem's advise about looking for last year's models. Often the only thing changed is the color choices!
They've got these all the time, but they only push them during "clearance" events. You could save $100 easily, but you have to ask!!

Oh, and I'd recommend keeping an open mind as to type & style. A few years ago I bought a hi quality mountain bike, pretty nice rig. Only catch was that after a couple hours I hated the thing! Bought a "cross" style instead & it's MUCH nicer for our usage.

But then, you're a bit younger...

Ok thanks all for the info and help
I can't wait to get it out on the trails! Take a look at http://www.cnook.net/mixpics.htm
I will be gone for about 4 weeks for a Lanscaping course in TX and will use the bike on campus alot of the time down there and some trails on the weekends!

Thanks again and God Bless America!
