last june i didn't know how to do anything with my computer except turn it on and surf the web.

i joined up with this gang and i have since built the computer that i am on now, added a firewall(which i didn't know existed),i can connect 2 or more systems to my dsl connection,flashed my bios. gone from win98 to win2k, i have dual booted. tried linux, messed around with photoshop and i now i am about to embark on overclocking my system.

all this in one night.(ok maybe longer)

i was also stuck with a gateway in your sitiation i wanted to upgrade my graphics card but it was integrated by then i was pissed at gateway for their shitty tech support so i built my new system
looked on the internet found out the best price performance ratio
parts heres what i did

ripped the 20 gighdd /floppy 256 mg of ram out of my gateway
bought a msi k7t turbo 2(nice red board cool looking )and a duron 950 mhzoc to 1ghz

geforce 2 mx200 and a soundblaster live value
i was in business
this was EAZY to do and i spent about 450 canadian on it minus the 150 i sold the old p3800 and 440bx mobo for so 300 dollars =about 175 us dollers

i then called gateway tech support and said "Wanna hear what a shitty gateway computer case sounds like when its being hit with an aluminum bat "and the tech guy was cool as hell he had a good laugh as did i

That is if you don't mind a Company that is utterly contemptuos of its Customers. This was the Co that kept tell me that an Intel 810 Chipset was driving a AMD Duron !

When I told this to others, they told me they (the big Sytem intergraters) are all like that.

I guess the advantage of building your own is that you won't be contemptuous of yourself.

I have it in mind (46 lb. brain) to build a Unique computer, designed entirely by members of TechIMO.

And I have you in mind to design--aesthetically speaking-- to design the innards--if you will.
