Is it Piracy or Stealing?

I just want an opinion, many people consider piracy as synonimous with stealing, where others, me included, though it is still wrong, consider it different than stealing. What do you think?

I think it's merely a word for the STYLE of stealing.

GroundZero3 is correct. It is no doubt stealing. However I sleep fine at night and I have never paid for software over $30. It doesn't trouble my conscience.

Another point -

Hey GroundZero3 - did you draw that avatar yourself, or was it a still taken from an anime video? Did you pay that artist for the right to display that image? Or did you steal a copyrighted image?

please note that I am not trying to pick on GroundZero3, I am merely using him as a convient example to illistrate my point.

No, I can only afford to pay $30. I realise that it is "stealing" but I equate software piracy with jaywalking on my personal morality scale.

Can you steal from Microsoft? I have purchased Win95, XP, Nortons etc. But I would consider installing copied software of products which are so overpriced I would not buy them whether I can get copies or not. Also if I ever had a "pirated" copy when the new version came out I probably would buy it, I guess its a form of "pirate before you buy it"

When it's convenient for these compaines to give out their software like internet explorer its all well and good but if a person buys XP and install it on two computers its a problem?

Also I could not blame someone for using a pirated copy when with every version of windows that comes out you have to buy a new version of the high priced apps that will not work with previous versions.
