These new popular FULL-SCREEN flash/shockwave ads on some pages...I HATE them. Not only do they pop up all over your screen and make it impossible to carry on what you're doing, but they also have to have SOUND in them. Scares the h*** out of me when I have the amp on loud. So here are the reasons they should be banned:

* Wastes our time - We didn't ask to see a full-screen ad on our monitor that you can't close unless you find the very tiny little 'close' button hidden away somewhere.

* Wastes our bandwidth - We didn't ask to have a fullscreen ad with sounds and fancy graphics downloaded. It takes up bandwidth better used elsewhere.

* Scares us and our children(alt. pets) - Those sounds appear from nowhere and surprises us.

So there you have it.

Fight the fullscreen ads!!!!!!!

Adaware killed those for me. <shrug> Moz is pretty good about not letting that stuff get nasty too. Or at least it has been for me. I stopped using IE a month ago due to DoubleClick and Valueclick.

opera isn't affected by pop up adds because it just opens windows on the little bar thingy and you can just ignore them

I read fast, so there's usually enough time to at least get the important points of what's underneath the ad before I kill the window.. Now that I think about it, maybe I could just minimize the window and read a different page (in a different window) until the ad finishes.

Hey! Another person in the world hates Ads and Flash as much as I hate them?? Wow!

Agent_Embryo: I'm guessing you are running Interknot Exposer... If so, give up on the lame M$ browser, OK?

Try this: Get Opera 6, install it, do not run it yet; open the Opera plugins folder, delete the swflash plugin thing (I've forgotten the exact name... several weeks ago); now you can launch Opera, first thing, press F12 key, choose no popup windows.

Done... surf in peace and visual; quiet.

What you'll get:
A) no more popups because F12;
B) no more Flash (just grey boxes that say "click here") because no plugin (until you click there...);
C) faster surfing (that's Operas fault, not mine);
D) fewer crashes.

I'm running 98SE/patched/whacked/smacked and IE 5.0/5.5/6.0 at work and I constantly hated Flash and popups, until I did this.

Then, for a real chuckle, visit the newsgroup called alt.design.graphics, search for "flash hater tells all", "flash hater is happy now" and "Flashturbation" if you want a good read on how dippy these Flash creator people are. =)

They're everywhere, maddheadfat. You can't escape unless you use some sort of pop-up-blocking software.

Dunbar, I agree. I HATE FLASH. I've never seen Flash add ANYTHING to a webpage.
