Anyone know Howard Sterns addy? Just thought that he would love this (controversal and screw the compition). Also getting the word out to any other news media will be helpful. Contacting the papers/radio/tv here in the detroit area, but don't think this will be a big story here. Maybe someone closer???

What about the Animal Precint (SP?) that filmed in NewYork. I watch Animal Planet all the time. That show Animal Precint is about several agencies that spefically works with and arrest people for animal cruelity. Maybe they can air something about how wrong it is to toss animals out like this. I think they are also the SCPA or something like that.

"Shock" radio sucks
Chooco said: Quote: |
the main thing to do is contact a local TV station in the same city of the radio station sayin the crap.
| Ah, if only that would work...unfortunately, deregulation of radio/TV biz has resulted in a couple of large companies owning most of the outlets nationwide. Don't be surprised if Clear Channel owns the TV station, too.
I am NOT a big fan of PETA, nor am I particularly fond of animals. I eat meat, fish, poultry when and if I want. But if Doc's description is accurate, and I assume it is, I am outraged by this moronic and inhumane behavior. I'm hopeful they'll get these jackasses off the air...but I won't be holding my breath.

One additional way to put pressure on them is to contact their major advertisers. Be brief, be professional. Simply ask them if they are aware of the illegal and unethical activities being promoted on the station.(give quotes) Let them know that you associate their product with animal cruelty.
Advertising is where the money is....go after that if you really want to put the pressure on 98 rock.

I seriously doubt you could get any of their advertisers to pull out of their contracts...its money for them, although indirectly. They want their product/service to be advertised to a large number of people, and if this radio station is a big thing down there, the company is going to say "yeah, they have some people that do that, but we need this airtime more".
I also noticed someone suggesting telling Rush Limbaugh about this. Rush probably would just hang up on you (if you got past his screener) after calling you a liberal animal-hugger (or whatever the term is for someone who stands up for decent treatment of animals?). Also, Rush is on a large number of ClearChannel news and AM stations across the country, so I seriously doubt he'd raise that much of a stink about it. It would be like you protesting against whoever it is you work for (a.k.a. biting the hand that feeds you).

Seal, I gotta disagree with ya a bit. If they were doing obscene, obnoxious D.J. type things, then you'd be right. But as I understand it, they're promoting chucking animals out of car windows. I haven't heard them, so I really can't make a judgement on it.
But if they're guilty of promoting what it sounds like they are, then the advertisers would care.
As for Rush, I agree, you wouldn't get past the screeners. But even if you did...who cares? I don't consider Rush to have anything to offer to much of anything.

Another email received today: Mr. Germany:
Your concern was passed onto me, thank you for writing.
The running gag you refer to is a total and complete fabrication. It is
used to make fun of "Southside Steve" on the show for doing something so
horrible, not only to an animal, but to betray his grandmother as well.
What kind of person would do that?
For the sake of the bit they say he did this when he was a teenager and did
so because he needed the money. They do not encourage others to do so nor
do they endorse it in any way. It's the other way around. Steve gets a
verbal beating and treated as a lowlife for this alleged event.
It's all made up and just as elaborate as a Seinfeld bit. Many ficticious
acts are portrayed in movies, and on television and radio. Some patients
die each week on ER, the same scenario is often played out in sitcoms, but
no one actually dies in the making of the show and the same can be said of
this situation with Steve, his grandmother, and her dog.
I realize that not everyone laughs at the same jokes, and that someone may
not find the humor in the abuse Steve takes for something he never did. But
we are not suggesting that what is being alleged in the bit is acceptable in
anyway.
Again, I thank you for writing and giving us an opportunity to explain.
Sincerely,
Tim Dukes
