On short notice, I wrote up this letter, addressed to the President and CEO of ClearChannel (Lowry Mays). I hope he will realise what his company is promoting, and put an end to it.
Dear Sir;
While reading a post on an online forum, I came across a quite disturbing statement about one of your company’s radio stations (96 Rock, Atlanta, Georgia) from one of the station’s listeners. This is his post:
My fav Radio station in Atlanta has some DJ's that think they're being cute by talking trash. IMHO it's ok to bash this and that, but when it comes to advocating animal cruelty, I have to stop and shout.
The DA's at 96 Rock are re-playing a broadcast where one of the DJ's was called by his Grandmother to put her pet dog to sleep, and she paid him to either take it to the Vet or Animal Shelter. Instead, he took it down one of the local interstate highways and threw the still living animal out the window of a moving vehicle. They laugh and crow about how funny it was and how it is excusable because they were "young." They also will vocally trample any group who attempts to help animals, including calling the folks at PETA idiots or morons or other insulting phrases.
The persons who are involved in this are:
1. Larry Wachs
2. Eric Von Hessler
3. Steve Rickman aka "Southside Steve"
In recent months (since this broadcast has become repeated several times) I have seen several instances of people throwing Kittens from the windows of vehicles on local highways. How do I know they were simply not just run over?
I see one kitten in the middle of the highway, a couple of hundred yards another the same size in the center of the painted line.. Then another all the same size, all directly in the center of the highway, often times a large distance from housing areas. So some locals have taken up this habit, I do wish I would catch them in the act...

If this is the kind of slop your company promotes for more ratings, and eventually more money, you should be ashamed. I don’t see how a respectable company can allow a member station to promote this, or how you could sleep at night knowing your salary comes from someone who treats animals with such cruelty. I hope this letter will result in some disciplinary action against the above-mentioned DJ’s.
