in search for a unique topic for a school project
sup techimo members,
i've been having a hard time in finding a unique topic that is considered a world issue.
sure, there's a lot of problems around the world but i wan't to research an issue that hardly gets any attention.
I mean, there's issues like deforestation, hunger, poverty but i know for a fact that other students in my class are probably using those topics.
so anyone got any suggestions?
i had piracy in mind but someone had dibs on it already. =(

Slavery is a real problem in some areas of the world.
Overfishing the ocean.
Global warming.
Coral reefs are dying around the world.
Nuclear waste disposal.
Nuclear testing.
Good luck with your project!

How about the "Digital Divide," fascinating and all too real modern phenomena which has widespread current and future implications that effect race, class and culture.

How about worldwide UFO sightings? There's been an abnormally high number of sightings in Canada lately.

Mortis, could you please extrapolate? "Digital Divide"?
I think I know what you mean, but not sure... |

One quick example Knot
Every member of TechIMO is on the same side of the digital divide. Why?
We all have computers and even more than that! internet access.
On the other side are those who do not.
As Mortis put it. It is an "all too real modern phenomena which has widespread current and future implications that effect race, class and culture."

Thanks, CD, that's what I thought.
Funny, this phenomena has a title now. I think about it sometimes...makes me grateful and angry at the same time.
Not bad, two emotions for the price of one.
Yes, (guy who has unpronouncable name ) this is a KILLER topic for a report. I invite you to refer back here for ideas/notes! |

I thought about doing that- but decided against it as there are several perspectives that can be considered. I didnt want to jade <o_0>'s unique decision of a perspective and approach should he/she decide to read up on it.
But what the heck- (a very broad simple view): Modern society is becoming more reliant and dependent on technology in education, the workplace and "in-home." This is technological progression, however- technology has a steep price tag. School districts, businesses, classes and individuals who do not have the monetary resources to access such a society will not learn in a "modern" way. As a result, School districst will not graduate as many potential college applicants, businesses will close as larger companies/corporations are more cost efficient and expediant, class distinction will have another obstacle and fuel to further the gap and individuals will not possess entry level and "basic" computer/technological skills that are required in today's and future job markets.
Please understand- this is a very simple breakdown. This phenomena not only has personal local (United States), but global implications in a world economy and cultural society. Technology does much to bridge gaps, but it also creates and increases others.
Edit: Thanks CrystalDragon, took me a while to come back... hehehe.

Especially the effect on those who abuse internet at work because they don't have it at home. Addictions die slowly, and working with someone who compulsively browses or chats rather than works can be most annoying.
