Need some advice
<RANT>
Ok here is the situation at work. There are 3 people in the MIS department, my boss, another peson that works only with 1 program, and myself. I support close to 200 people on all progrms except 1. My boss works only with the servers.
Ok we started upgrading RAM on the desktops last week. I went around to every machine to see what motherboard that they had. Then went on the internet and looked up that board to see how much RAM it could hold. I then sid to my boss what to buy. No big deal right. Well we got the RAM in and I went around and started to install it. Took better part of two days to install all of the RAM. The RAM that was taken out of one PC was used in another. I then came up with a new total that we needed to order so that we could get everybody up to speed. Installed all of this in less than a day. Finished Monday.
Yesterday I had to go to every PC (80) in the building and change print drivers for the HP 2200 laser jet printers. This took all day. Today I am asked to set up a batch file that will delete the swap file, reboot the PC in safe mode, then run defrag, then reboot into windows. I worked on the file for about 4 hours trying to get it figured out. This was in the afternoon, in the morning I have a call that someone can not print to a HP 2100 printer. I go up totake alook and notice that the printer is pointing to the wron port on the server. I change it to the right port and it still would not work, so I changed it back. I then try a new install of the printer on my machine and it still is pointing to the wrong port. I let my boss know that there is something wrong and I get blamed for it. Yet he was on the server changing drivers for the 2100's last night.
At about 4:00 he comes up to me and tells me I have to go over to our sister building and fix some problems over there. This will take 1/2 day. Then when I get back I have to build 2 PC so that they are ready by Friday (1) and Monday (other). Now in the mean time I have to go around and change all of the print drivers for the 2100's. This has to be done tomorrow. On friday I have to take the batch file that I have to finish yet and go to the PC's ( about 40) and run the batch file.
In the mean time the guy who works on Microstation does none of this, yet he gets paid twice what I do.
With the printer situation that happend today I got blamed for it yet he was in messing with the printers (2100's). I was told that I waisted all day workin on the batch file. With the PC's that I have to rebuild, I made the suggestion that we use one that no one is using at the time since it is right there and all setup. He said no.

Does this seem fair? Should I bee looking for a diff job?

What can you do??? you surely cant tell your boss to get stuffed can you? Maybe another job is needed. Or maybe an appeal toy your boss, explain to him how the comapny would fail without your tireless efforts.
If he doesn't liek this idea, give him a taste, take your holidays!

There are worse things that could happen, but I know how you feel. I would say stick with it until you find a better job.

Wow. I can see your frustration! How long have u been with this co? If it has been 2 years, then most certainly your resume needs to be updated and distributed. I hate being taken advantage of and it sounds like ur boss is doing that to you. I hope you at least get overtime. Are your benefits good? Are you able to move to a new job? So many things to consider. I wish you luck!

Hey Bud, sorry to hear you are having a rough time. Some things to think about- what are your priorities in a day and what are his? His may seem illogical to you, but- he's management (no offense to anyone)... try to react accordingly and plan your day accordingly. If you dont have a day planner, get one. For each day, plan your tasks and split your time according to HIS expectations. Block things out- 3 hrs on updating ram, 3 hours on printer driver issues.... and then 2 hours on script. Always put your priority for the day either last or first thing- but limit the time. I am not sure how your world in your company works- If you have more tech issues in afternoon, plan your development time for morning or visa versa. WIth the printer screwup issue on his part- dismiss it for the time being. Thats not a battle to pick or prove currently- will just make things more tense. As far as coworker who has less responsibilities, Once you have tracked your days and time organization with a planner and have, in your opinion, proven consistent effeciency and effectiveness, take yourself and your planner to your manager and non-offensively show him your results- then explain your opinion about the other position, not the person! Dont attack the person- that messes with relationships and character... state informed opinions about the current positions role and responsibilites and any suggestions you may have to improve its daily function. Hope this helps and wasnt just rambling.
As far as new job- it never hurts to have an updated resume and to continually look for better positions and opportunities.
GoodLuck Man!

Mortis thanks for the advise. Here is the thing though. I do try and distrubute my time accordingly but it never happens the way I have it planned. I had made plans to work on a problem log that I created from a survey that I send out to the users. I was told that I need to have all of the problems fixed by the 15th of this month. Now alot of the complaints that the users are having are based on Citrix being slow or the servers crashing. So I start on the problem log and I am then told to do the stuff from my first post. In the mean time I am still supposed to get the problem log completed.
I do not use a planner but I think I will start. I am due for an evaluatin in the next month or two. My boss already knows that I am very dissatisfied with the pay I get know. I have almost 3 years experience in the IT field plus an Associate degree in Computer systems, yet make less than $13.00 /hr. I do not have benefits through this company ( insurance, vision, dental, banking) I have all of that through my wifes company ( alot cheaper) (York Hospital).
I understand what you are saying and will take that to heart. From one Knight to another thanks
Korgul
