The problem with most IQ tests is they are either ethnocentric (culturally specific) or geograhically inclined. A very good IQ test could be done by any person for any country and any cultural / language background. In reality I've never come across one like this.
So if you live in the US and do an IQ test designed in the US, it probably gives you a reasonable approximation of what your IQ is in relation to a lot of other people in the US. But if you are from Europe, or worse a middle Eastern country, and you do an IQ test designed for US citizens, you are not giving yourself a good comparison.
Remember IQ measures a particular facet of intelligence, mainly logical thinking. This does not always make you "smart", IMO anyway. I know people with high IQ test scores who couldn't easily change a tyre, for example, as they have no mechanical aptitude whatsoever.
