Miscellaneous things/projects to do
I've been brainstorming for miscellaneous projects to work on. After all my problems lately, (it's been a bad year), I thought it might help to do things that take my mind of things...
I have my BA in Art, and I've focused on Appalachian Arts in my program, too. I am negotiating with two places to come and speak on Appalachian Art/Quilting. (Yes, geekgrl can sew!!) I will probably discuss the history, function, types of design, etc.... Hopefully, I could get a class up at the local fabric shop with some activities.... maybe learning a pattern. So, that's my first idea for a project.. and I could even make some money at it.
I also thought about setting up a webpage, but not sure what to include on it. So, I guess that needs a lot more brainstorming.
Anyone else have any ideas for some projects? Also, I welcome computer-related projects, although I'm sick of programming.
Just trying to make my life a little more easy to deal with at the time.... maybe something interesting to think about when I'm need to think about other things.

| THAT...is a GREAT idea.
Funny, I knew a woman years ago, troubled with the homelife, who decided to teach a certain oil painting technique at the local University...it was my first experience in oil painting.
I'm still grateful to her! |

Well, if you like the older arts, from which in my mind quilting comes from, have you thought about weaving fabric?
Computer related, with your art talent and programming.. I would think graphic design would be a natural...

| When I lived in Kentucky, I knew a couple in Berea (probably less than an hour from you?) who did traditional weaving in a shop below a bed and breakfast that they ran. If you're interested in this, I could look up their contact info.
Oh, and you could also join the Ministry of Avatars... |

A webpage devoted to Appalachian Art would certainly be fascinating! I'm sure there is stuff already out there, but I'm also sure you would come at it from a unique angle.
Where did you study art?
I'm really sorry you've had such a bad year!

Angela,
I studied art at Morehead St. University in Morehead, KY (heart of Appalachia!) There is a great folk art museum there if you are interested in folk art. I know the curator, he's from England, and absolute folk art genius. He knows all there is to know!
I had some wonderful, talented teachers.

I like the idea of a website devoted to Appalachian art. Considering your background in art, creating such a page might be a fun way to incorporate your artistic talent into a technical format.
An Appalacian art gallery might also have a souviner shop. One that has some examples with downloadable patterns & directions for non-artistic types that want to try something new? Maybe include some desktop images or screensavers of your own artwork?

From the first part of your post I would have guessed you went to Berea, but Moreheads not too bad |
