quite honestly you'll find many just like lynch in these parts, I know many people here dont actually have IT positions, however that does not mean they are any more or less credible in their jobs. CMonster I believe does not work in IT, however I'd take his advice in Linux in a heart beat cause I know he knows what he's talking about in general. (not trying to NOT include anybody he was just one that popped into my head as not IT job lol)
You yourself do not have an IT job does that mean you're not as credible as a guy thats been IT for awhile?
For instance, if you're a programmer for 20 yrs that doesn't mean you know a damn thing about PC's (I once knew a programmer, quite intelliegent at that knew his stuff in programming) .. he didn't know how to get to dial up networking.
Then on the other side of the spectrum are people like myself lol.
My title? lol
Network Engineer... am I one? nope, thats just the title I get... I do more scripting/programming than anything... however, I also work 2nd shift 3rd tier network support (1st tier being the front lines help desk, 3rd tier being actual network support of the server services mail, home directories etc)
If you ask me how to setup DFS, or a RAS connection I couldn't tell you when at the same time other people in my position would laugh and say thats easy!!!
As you get your feet in the door you'll start taking less notice of "titles" I've also been a senior analyst

lol I AM NOT!! hahaha
For credibility, you'll just have to find out yourself through trial and error. I myself have not found anybody that I flat out say "umm no thats xxx he doesn't have a clue"

well other than myself that is lol
