Bell Paulsy..... a lil info help
Bad news....
Monday my tongue went numb... i figured i just burned it on some coffee or somethin... so i didn't worry, but lastnight my whole upper lip went number, so, that freaked me out. My mom gave me a call, and i mentioned it, she said that she had the same thing kind of when she was 20 some.... turned out to be bell paulsy..( i dunno how to spell it) She told me to goto the ER and check it out, cuz, hey, what did i have to lose.
I did... and, yep, that's what the dude said, He didn't give me any info on it though... just said take this predisone and don't miss any doses...
I'm wondering, anyone here ever heard of it... and if so.... what can i expect... cuz like, the whole left side of my face is numb right now....( you should see me try to have a smoke)
all i gotta say is, this sucks, this sucks hardcore....
and i think the er doc just went an looked it up in a dictionary or soemthin... he sucked....

Yeah, that does suck. If you mean Prednisone, be carefull with it, I had to take prednisone when I had Leukemia, and its very bad for making you retain water, and therefore gain weight, some cases (like mine) it doesnt all come off. End up with a weight problem. I was told it would come off in a few months, but it has been 2 years since I have taken it, and I still have quite a weight problem from it, and know others who have the same problem. Just a heads up on that.
Good luck with this, hope it turns out ok.

to make a long story short.... sis-in-law has it, 13 yrs ago she was with me at a pediatrician visit. He commented to her that they have some very aggressive treatments for it. She saw her Dr. in Grand Rapids MI and he said there's nothing that can be done.
Anyways, maybe as a starting point you could start with The Methodist Hospital in Houston TX. It's one of the top med centers in the world. Also could try getting info thru Baylor College of Medicine......
I know this isn't much info for you, just don't give up. I haven't researched this topic lately so not sure whattsup with current treatments. Just wanted to give you a lead....

Sorry to hear about that Tonto. A couple years ago, I woke up and my whole right side of my body was numb. I could hardly walk. I went to the doc, and his first impression was that I had a stroke! He did some blood work on me, which turned up nothing. So he sent me for an MRI, and it turned out to be MS (Multiple Schlerosis, sp?). Well, a year later I was given a clean bill of health, now the MS doc thinks it wasn't MS, but a neural virus in my brain that mimics MS. I tell my wife that I cured MS . I don't understand what it was completely, but I do know that a superior state of mind helped me alot. So at this point, I'm going to give you advise on how I handled it. If you find you can't do something that you could do before, just keep trying. Like writing; when this happened to me, I couldn't even write my name, so I just kept practicing and excersising my hand. I paced around all the time so I could re-train my leg how to work properly again. I meditated; I thought of all the things I couldn't do, and mentally imagined myself doing it, correctly. I wish the best of luck to you.
