Furnishing a house on the cheap

Anyone have some suggestions for me on how to furnish a house on the cheap? Im moving into a house with a friend of mine as soon as his lease is up on the place he shared with his old roomate, and neither of us have furniture. I have my computer desk and thats it. My guitar amp with a pillow functions as a chair, but I have no bed or couch or tables or anything. Sooo Ive got to figure out how to furnish a place very cheaply and very quickly.
Ideas?

Get a map of the garbage routes, and start curb cruising I've seen people throw out some pretty nice furniture when they get new stuff. You might also find some older computer stuff to make a few cows for a UD herd

You could also check out places like Salvation Army, Goodwill, and second hand furniture stores.

If your family is near, ask them for some old stuff. Sometimes, they are looking to get new stuff, but cannot rationalize it. If they 'have' to give you furniture then they 'must' get new stuff.

Also check around for garage/lawn sells.

Yeah, my family doesnt buy anything new. My dad lives like a monk and his wife only buys antiques. Also they are the reason I have to get furniture fast anyway. I thought I would have until the end of the summer before I needed to have a furnished place, but instead of getting my new car then furnishing a place, looks like im going to be furnishing a place paying rent and THEN getting a new car. Praying all the while that my 1990 Geo Prizm doesnt die. Poor piece of junk that was my first car doesnt have much life left in her.

I furnished half of my house at the Salvation Army store. I bought some back automotive spray paint and sprayed an entertainment center I bought for $14. It looks like new now. Also look at estate sales for pot/pans etc. Lots of great deals there.

Check the dumpsters behind furniture stores, yard sales, classified section of the paper and everything mentioned above.

sturdy boxes are handy for putting tv's , stereo's and computers on.
and its a good reason for buying 24-packs of beer "i need furniture"

a sofa bed is a good investment, or just sleep on the a sofa.

those big cable reels make cool tables

Ive actually got a table made out of a cable reel I pulled out of the dumpster behind a factory. But its stuck in Michigan and unless I can convince my sister that Pittsburgh is better than Florida for spring break its stuck up there. Wont fit in my car even if I were to go up for a visit and to pick it up.

Surreal--please take your temperature immediately and report back. We think something may be off.

You didn't mention Ikea!
