Am i the only one cought out like this?

Hello everyone,i,m Graham (rkaba1) and comletely new on here,so i hope some one will answer my question.
Firstly i live in the midlands UK, i bought a Kodak camera on the internet at what i thought was a good price, however when it arrived here, customs desided i had to pay the eqivelent of another 25% in taxes for me to be allowed to take posession of it,having already given the seller the asking price ,(NO MENTION OF EXTRA TAXES TO PAY IN AD) i couldnt refuse or loose the camera all together.

Has anyone else had problems of customs and taxes which are not advertised when selling such items? and is there a way round this to stop it happening again?
I bought the camera to take pictures to add to my website

CGW Direct | Nintendo and All Makes of Consoles and Games

I must agree it does a good job, but at quite a price, when you include those un mentioned taxes !
am i alone?

One must really do their homework aforehand in order to not be caught unaware with purchases abroad, customs, duties, taxes, VATs, etc. As you found out, it can be quite an unpleasant shock.

A good reference site is Frommer's Travel Guides: The Best Trips Start Here!, and your own country's Customs' site, HM Revenue & Customs: Home Page.
