I absolutely understand your frustration. Of course, it's all the American capitalist system, where anyway they can get a few more bucks out of you they do.

Don't forget about all those reviews of products that we have seen where the cable that DOES come with the product ends up being pretty cheapo and you end up buying another one anyway. My ASUS monitor came with a DVI cable that was just like that. The display would blank out about once a minute. New higher quality cable (~$20) solved the problem.
