MIGRAINE
whenever i'm just about to get a migraine, my eyes go all blurry and i can't focus. This has just happened to me right now (so i can't revise for my maths exam very well, i can barely read what i'm typing).
I bjhave been told to drink lots of water, but i'm nto sure if that helps. Alsio i just took a parecetamol (and i got another one beside me)
Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks,
Sean McLemon

Greetings... Steam helps me- I take medication, go sit in the bathroom with the door shut and lights off and blast the hot water. I sit in there for about 20 minutes then take a knap. One of two things happen- I either feel better (not completely gone but considerably dulled) or I feel worse. To break it down- 75% of the time better, 25% of the time worse. I hope you feel better and dont envy you. Goodluck.

Darkness and silence helps. My wife takes vasograin for it. I never get a headache so I can't give suggestions from first hand, but sometimes a walk in fresh air may help.

Take some drugs.
Turn off everything, lights included.
Go to sleep with ice pack on head.

I havent been to see a neurologist. The Paracetamol was the only thing i could find in our house, normally I take Ibuprofen.
i'll have to see a GP because its getting to be really disruptive (i can't do any more revision for my maths as my head is in pain).
Thanks for the replies |

I agree with geekgrl the ice pack works wonders for me. As far as pain medication I use prescrition Ibuprofen that comes in a 800 milligram horse sized pill.
I also know people that swear by heating pads. Definately see a doctor there are other types of meds they can try.

Dear Lemon[H]ead,
I was thinking of PM'ing this but there appears to be some misconceptions that should be addressed.
First, do not do anything until it is properly evaluated by a neurologist, peferably one specializing in headaches, except for the dark and quiet.
True migraine attacks often bring on photophobia and audiophobia as neurological accompaniments.
Avoid the Ibuprofen --unless advised by a Doctor-- as it is an anti-coagulant.
If the event is followed by a headache, most common pain-killers are not very effective. Try to note the immediate events and foods/drugs prior to the events.
While the visual disturbance is part of "classic migraines', only about 20% of migraine attacks are "classic migraines" . An occassional migraine is not rare--especially in women where it follows the estrogen cycle--but yours seem to be a problem which further argues for medical evaluation, preferably by somebody specialized in this area.
Fortunately, today, there are medicines which can treat and even lessen their incidence. All the more reason to spin the numbers and get a referral.
Best wishes,
DOOOG

I used to have a friend in the army who would get migraines quite often. Whenever that happened he would get a towel and wrap it around his head as tight as he could, he once told me that the tighter is was the more it helped. Just thought I'd mention it.
