Finally the season begins again! I'm looking for a Tony Stewart Championship year - if he can stay outta trouble and off probation .

I guess Junior is gonna be one to watch today and Michael Waltrip. They've been pretty fast throughout speed week. Junior won yesterdays Busch race (Waltrip 2nd). Then again, Tony won the Iroc race so..........

Any other Nascar fans? Who are y'all rooting for besides the normal Gordo fans j/k.

My driver is Bobby Labonte - I hope he has a better year than last. My least favorite driver is Kurt Busch although I can now start yelling at Jeff Green in the AOL car .

Mike

Yes I am excited as well. My favorite driver is Tony Stewart. I think he will have a very good chance today as well as the championship. Although I would like to see Dave Marcis win today since he is retiring after the Daytona 500.

What a race!

I haven't screamed at the tv that much since I gave up on the Buffalo Bills years ago. It's too bad about the "big one" - at least they all were alright.

I didn't see Ward Burton winning but that's a whole lot better than the idiot Busch.

Actually nunyadam, Sterling WAS awesome last year and today I figured he had it bagged. I'm still scratching my head about him getting out of the car and pulling out the fender with a few laps left. Maybe he didn't think anyone was watching . I dunno though, his car was smoking before the red flag after the contact with Gordo.

An awesome begining for the season to say the least.

That was the most stupidest thing I have ever seen. For one he drove under the yellow line TO PASS GORDON (I don't care what they say!) and knocks Gordon out of the lead. Of course Gordon can't say Sterling did it on purpose, because Gordon had no where else to go. He had to maintain his line and Sterling had to come up off the yellow before he got in trouble and he and Gordon hit. IMO Sterling should have NEVER been under the yellow line period. Then he gets out and tries to fix his fender... DUH!!!! The race started out crappy anyways due to Stewart's engine blowing on the 4th lap. Jr's tire going down and destroying his car. Wierd race. The only good thing I can say is I am glad NO ONE was injured in the 18 car pile up. Rough day for the drivers.....

Sweeper -

You are sooo right. I'm still kinda chuckling / dumbfounded that Marlin did that .

I was ready to shut the race off after the Tony thing, then the Junior (1st blown tire) thing. You hit the money when you said "wierd race". I didn't predict it being this wierd. Probably the last time I was really taken back at the race results was last year when Elliot Sadler won at Bristol - who could've called that?

It's gonna be a strange year, me thinks.

That high pitched whine isn't Gordon's car going by... it is Sweeper. Whining in true Gordon fashion.

The whole Gordon caused that whole deal because he was slowing down the pack trying to get Marlin to suck back up to him on the restart. Marlin was laying back to get a jump on him, and instead of gunning it like he should, Gordon was holding the speed down so Marlin had to get back up to him. Gordon even admitted it. He said something along the lines of "It was my fault." He went below the line cause Gordon cut into him, and Gordon was plenty below the line himself (as he spun off into the infield).

As for the whole fender deal, I thought it was too damn funny. He had nothing to lose by gettig out of his car because he was going to have to go into the pits if he didn't. I dunno what the exact defintition of "working on the car" is anyhow. He didn't have any tools, nor were any memebers of the crew involved. It's the same thing as if he were fiddling around with something inside the car during the red.

Oh well, it was an interesting race... my driver didn't win, didn't even make the field =(

Furthermore... what is with nascar red flagging the race? They don't have a green/white/checker rule? It wasn't a severe wreck that required the race be stopped. The only reason they stopped it was to get the big ratings finish they wanted.

Had they not red flagged it, Marlin would have limped to the finish for the victory. Nascar makes most of the rules up as they go along, always have, always will.

I think it's time to change the spoiler height and front air dam specs again... the silver and the yellow cars looked to have an advantage over the the other colors.....................what a mess ! !

I remember when you raced what you had and it was up to the manufacterer to design a competitive body style. If your car was square as a box and broke the wind tunnel during testing then, well it was just tough.
