Recession & Downsizing in U.S.A

Joe Smith started the day early, having set his alarm
clock (MADE IN JAPAN) for 6 am . . .

While his coffeepot (MADE IN CHINA) was perking .. . .
he shaved his electric razor (MADE IN HONG KONG).

He put on a dress shirt (MADE IN SRI LANKA), designer
jeans (MADE IN SINGAPORE), and tennis shoes (MADE IN KOREA).

After cooking breakfast in his new electric skillet
(MADE IN INDIA), He sat down with his calculator (MADE IN
MEXICO), to see how much he could spend today.

After setting his watch (MADE IN SWITERLAND), to the
radio (MADE IN JAPAN), he got in his car (MADE IN GERMANY), and
continued his search for a good paying AMERICAN JOB !!!

At the end of yet another discouraging and fruitless
day, Joe decided to relax for a while.

He put on his sandals (MADE IN BRAZIL), poured himself a glass of wine (MADE IN FRANCE), and turned on his TV (MADE IN INDONESIA), and wondered why he can't find a good paying job (in AMERICA)!!!

Thats all low tech stuff that gets contracted to overseas suppliers because of cheaper labor costs.

We do services (financial, legal....), high technology low labor products (turbines, airplanes, armaments) , design, R&D, basic scientific research, and so on.

Its more efficient to let the most productive vendor make any particular product. For example, large 10,000HP diesel engines made by Cummins actually ship some components to Asia for machining and do final assembly here.

Exactly the same over here too. Just about everything seems to be made in China. The time will come however, when China and the other neighbouring countries will want better wages and then stuff will start to be made in some other, as yet, unidentified countries, maybe South America or the like.

Just the other day the vacuum cleaner company Dyson, a British based company announced it is moving it's manufacturing to China where costs are cheaper.
