Meet the first cloned cat... :)

The people over at TX A&M have recently cloned a cat. It's a 2-month kitten called "Cc". Read about it over at CNN.

Ain't it cute? :

It is cute, but I wonder whether it will go on to develop premature arthritis or some other such complication, like Dolly the sheep

A program aimed at letting people clone their beloved pets, huh? Sheesh, pretty soon, we'll be cloning our parents or something!

Personally, I wouldn't clone my pet. Just wouldn't feel right. I'd just go out and get another one. And what's that name "Cc" supposed to stand for? Cloned Cat, Copy Cat?

I think the Cc is like in email carbon copy and BCc is blind carbon copy.

This will depend on the source of the DNA that was used.

Lets say that the DNA was taken from a 4 year old cat, then this new cloned cat's cells would be 4 years old (biological age).

If they take the DNA from a much younger cat then the chances of such diseases popping up early are greatly diminished.

However, cloned animals usually suffer a weak immune system.

I dont think it makes sense to clone cats. There are already way too many. Maybe they should clone something cool, not that ctas arn't cool but maybe they could help somethign alittle more worth while?

The report was saying that maybe wealthy pet owners could then have their deceased pets cloned. But I don't think the cloned pet would have the same personality as the original, and the owners may well be disappointed that the new cat or whatever was a tearaway compared to the placid original (or vice versa!).
