FedEx Rant
I usually use UPS, so I am not that familiar with FedEx procedures. However, In the last 3 months, I had two packages delivered FedEx and am not that happy about either. Before XMas, friends back east sent me a package and when it was delivered, the delivery person left it sitting outside my apartment leaning against the door. Luckily, my neighbors didnt take it. Yesterday, I came home and there was a leaflet on my doorknob stating a package was delivered and was at apartment 201, the apartment across from mine. Again- luckily I knocked on the door and the neighbor gave it to me. The first package was no big deal and the second was an expensive one- but expensive or not- this really bothers me! I am going to call today and inquire whether this is standard operating procedure or if the delivery person for my area just isnt that intelligent and is that carefree with others property. I have 2 seagate harddrives being deliverd probably monday, I definately do not want this to happen with those! Does anyone know here if this is Standard Operating Procedure with FedEx? Picking up phone now to call....

EDIT: Just got off phone with Lori, customer rep for FedEx, very nice person to speak to, but still dont like FedEx policy. She explained to me that prior to xmas, because of the overwhelming deliveries, FedEx has the right to leave the package in a "safe place." I wasnt going to argue with her about what a "safe place" was. She checked my tracking number for yesterdays delivery and stated that my neighbor (who does not speak english) had signed for the package. She also continued to tell me that if I am expecting a delivery on a certain day, I should leave a note on the door for the delivery person if I want the package left at a particular neighbors should I not be home. Hmmmm, note to self- Have FedEx packages delivered to work, more importantly always try to get UPS.

Well, UPS isn't the best either.. I ordered a package on the 8th. I ordered this package and gave delivery plenty of time so that I would have this package for the 17th of this month.. Well.. All went well, my package was shipped the day after I ordered it and I was impressed at how fast it was shipped. WELL... Since the 9th of this month, my package has been on its way to WASHINGTON... I live in MAINE... My package has been traveling in the wrong direction for 4 days now, and just arrived in Washington this morning.. My delivery date was the 12th, it is now the14th, and I will never ge this package for the 17th... Stupid UPS..

I worked at a job where I had to Fedex a package out every night. Not once in 3 three years was that package ever delayed.
It's kinda like the commercial says, if it absolutely, positively has to be there overnight, then use Fedex. And there should always be someone to accept a delivery. Sending a package to an empty house is not a smart thing to do. If you know you are not going to be home then have it delivered to your place of work. Plus I believe you can instruct Fedex to only deliver the package upon "so'n'so's" signature. In which case they will attempt to deliver it 2 times and then send it back.

| Good pts Out and I will keep them in mind. However, when on the phone with FedEx asking about policy, never was it mentioned to me about being able to stipulate anothers authorization to sign and only that person authorization. I was told to leave a note taped on my door as quoted above. The work suggestion is very valid and I will be sure to do so in the future (not all employers allow personal deliveries). I just got used to UPS and shipping- when I get home, a notice of delivery is on door. Next morning, before work, I pick up. Never once was a package left unattended at my door or at a neighbors without my prior expressed consent. To me, the point is not to ensure a gauranteed timely delivery... it is a guarantee of a timely and safe delivery. When I have purchased things online, and fedex is the only option of delivery, never have I seen at the merchants shipping info site a place to stipulate anything- its only been forms for addresses. Maybe I overlooked something, but dont recall having any other options then address.

Ive had a two things delived by fedx first time I was home and the guy couldnt find my house so he called me. Next they left it sitting on out in a bag (it was raining).
Then UPS deliveries my parents stuff is some medicne and it has to be sign for so they see if anyone is home and if not leave a note saying they will be back a certain day or some place we can pick it up, A certain place I think last time was the post office.
Another time which was about a week or two ago, I was here but asleep and it was left outside (hidden somewhat) I looked out side after I woke up and never seen it. My sister seen it after she got off the bus.
So I guess its just the person delivering it and where. Neither one really does that much of a better job IMO.

I've sorta had the opposite problem vis-a-vis UPS and FedEx. UPS will leave it out wide open or with my somewhat sleazy neighbor. Fed-Ex won't deliver without a signature from me. No special instructions or anything, that's just the way they do it around here.
Of course, my usual FedEx stuff is two day from Crucial. I don't know if that's got anything to do with it or not, since a lot of my UPS stuff is two-day from CompGeeks.

Well Geesh... thats it- from now on, whether I am having ups or fedex deliver something, I am taking off work and/or calling in until it is delivered. Also- if anyone at TechIMO expects a package delivered in the future and lives in the midwestern region, email me and I will be happy to take off work and drive to your location to wait of your package. LOL. J/K.
Ah well... had my rant- they do their best to deliver products on time and safely. There will always be speedbumps in the road. This was just a rant. For the most part they are professionals who lend a gaurantee and then attempt to assist customers if things go awry. Feel better now knowing I am not alone.

I went into the local FedEx office and signed a form, designating "safe" neighbor's to leave the package with, and alternatively to have the package kept at the office if that option failed, and I'll pick it up there.
I much prefer FedEx over OOPS any day. |
