Black Hawk Down - AWESOME movie

I finally saw it tonight.

This movie has to be the best film I have ever seen in my entire life.

Of course, it was like it was written FOR me. I read the book - LOVED the book and read about this stuff ALL the time. I want to be a Ranger and am now entertaining the idea of being a chopper pilot. I'm big into military, all aspects of it including the mentality these Delta Force and Rangers had - I could completely relate.

This movie is PURE action.

The special effects ROCK, NO huge name actors trying to be a hero but at the same time many recognizable faces....you know ALL the Army choppers are real - no models. The US Army lent the use of 8-9 helicopters and 100 or so soldiers for the production of this film.

The parts when the Little Birds would rake the baddies with their miniguns and rockets.....that was kick@$$......

Perhaps my favorite part, same favorite part in the book of course, was when the two Delta Force snipers volunteered to go down to 'hawk pilot Mike Durant and fend off the Somalis. They most likely knew they were not going to get out of there alive but still went in anyway. It's the same reason why I liked the scene in "The Rock" when the Navy SEAL captain was surrounded and outnumbered by Marines in a better position. He wouldn't give the order to surrender, even though he knew they were going to die. Situations like that get me all fired up, making me proud of our military and even prouder to some day be a part of it.

DEFINATELY getting this DVD the day it comes out.

Probably will go see it again......my dad wants to see it, along with some of my friends.......so mayb 1-2 more times

Cool. Got to get out and see that one soon.

Wart - While I was in Arizona last week we went to the Pima Air Museum which is located right next to Davis-Montham Air Base, the home of the A-10! We got to see flights of 3 A-10s peel off to land. I couldn't tell you how many of them we saw coming and going. There were also some F-4's and a C-135 coming in and out too. As we were leaving you could see the F-4's doing practice bombing/strafing runs off in the distance. Very cool!

Atomic Rooster did you get to see the aviation graveyard - it's pretty cool also, and I'm not really into planes.

Grew up in Tucson, so I'm pretty familiar with it.

Cool! I really haven't seen many live A-10s in my lifetime, unfortunately...I'm sure I'll see MANY more though, even in action...

No we missed that. (Next time though) After wandering around there for about 2 1/2 hours, my wife had just about enough. So we loaded up the kids and drove down to Nogales, Mexico so she could say she's been to another country!

Wart -
They should be around for some years to come. The government has just committed $200 million for refurbishing the entire A-10 fleet.

Also, PM me if you go back. I still know of some great spots down there.
