Yes, you're right about the pics - pictured items sell better by far! Keep it simple, provide all the details you possibly can re the item and your expectations for payment, shipping, etc. I have eBayed for several years now (as a buyer only...so far). It is a great place to pick up hard-to-find items.
And yes, you do need to be cautious, don't deal with someone with many negative feedbacks - although you really need to read through them to get a feeling about the seller/buyer. I think that you are much safer on the 'seller' side of the transactions, i.e. money in hand before the item ships.
I have tried other auction sites, but despite some negative comments from the also-rans, I prefer eBay by far!
My dad has made good spending money in his retirement years through eBay. (Cheap plug coming.....you can visit his auctions on eBay by searching on seller 'jetexone', expecially if you're into postcards.) He has had very many successfull transactions on eBay over the years. If you happen to buy something from him, tell him I sent you!!
