I had a guy call in yesterday who wanted me to walk him through the process of "floormatting" his computer.

Whilst playing "Tom's Tech Support" one evening, I had a friend who had no computer savvy at all completely believing that defragging a hard drive involved completely taking the drive apart and supergluing all the pieces inside into one cohesive whole, so they couldn't move at all. Over the phone, I had him take his computer apart, pull the HD and he had an allen wrench poised to pull the cover on it, before I gave in and stopped him

I got a call from a truck service center to fix a computer once. The computer would not boot and made a lot of noise for second or two when first turned on. When I ask why some one had opened the hard drive I was told that they thought it need "maintanace", so they had one of the mechanics work on it. The really madding thing is three weeks after the work was done they wanted the drive back to return for warrenty and got pssed when I told them it had been disposed of (when i took it back they did not want the old drive)

If you have Windows on your Data machine, You'll find the OS on the top disc, you'll recognize it easily, it's much heavier then the rest of the discs. If you use Linux, then you'll of course don't need to do this operation at all...
