Politically Correct Racism

Now, if there was an organization called:

United White College Fund

Would it be looked upon the same?

It seems that "we" as a society look at racism from a one-sided perspective.

What do you guys think of this (if anything)? Not just the quote above but that topic in general.

Perhaps racism is one-sided because only one race owned slaves and only one race served as slaves. Of course, this is short-sighted as well since the people that owned slaves fought against people of the same race who gave their lives to abolish slavery.

Well of course that would be considered rascist wart.

Kinda like "reverse discrimination". Don't know. Many sides to the coin.

Basically, it seems one sided because it is all to correct a past "wrong" by the "doers" to the "doee".

In general I viewthat kind of thing as part of the process of evolution. Society in general is an a continual state of change.

For example the first itme you release a pendulum it returns past the center point. Each time that it swings back and forth it approaches the center more closely.

Same thing our society decided it had made a mistake. Over-reacted. "United Negro College Fund" and over the comming few years hopefully will react to that by settling more toward a more balanced (central) position

Now does it make as much sense as trying to see through mud?

I'll assume JnMHayes, when you made the statement you were refering to the south.. and not of the whole world or time..

As stated above.. before America.. there were others to own slaves.. America was just one of the last to stop it.. " ..only one race served as slaves.." again I will asume you are refering to america.. b/c if you weren't.. you are wrong. Rome during, before, and after their prime had somewhere close to half a million slaves, at any given time.. in any given place.. It is believed there was bout 300k in slaves in Rome itself alone.. Their slaves were either captured during war.. or were born into slavery. These men and woman where of all races..

You may say they were not americans.. it isn't the point.. America didn't start holding slaves.. and there wasn't only one race that was slaves in the world.. but do the great great great.. etc grand kids feel they need to head to Rome, and/or other nations that have owned slaves, and say they are owed somthing? No. I'm responsible for what I do in life.. not someone else.

I'm not a racist.. nor have I ever owned slaves.. nor my mother, nor my grand monther.. nor hers.. but I should be brow beaten over this? I think not.

I think CD's assesment.. is more to the kind.. and is a nice way to look at it.. racism in any form shouldn't be.. what happened in the past should remain.. in the past. Don't bring blame on the innocent.. and don't hate someone you do not even know.

The double standard for determining what is or is not rascist needs to dissolve before we can ever achieve any real equality. As it is, anyone who makes even a slight public comment favoring whites is a rascist, while it is acceptable for black-only organizations to exist??
Haven't we as a society reached the point that either viewpoint should be equally (and totally) unacceptable?

Personally, I could care less what color a person is. We have friends of both colors, as do my kids. A good person is a good person, and a jerk is a jerk. Both come in all colors and genders.

This is one of the great attractions of forum discussions, IMO. All pre-concieved ideas based on appearance do not exist online. There are many here that I would gladly call "friend" - yet I've no idea what their race is, or anything else appearance related for that matter! And it doesn't matter..
