Oldest equipment...

Was just reading the thread where the PC got TOSSED (!)...

Brought to mind another thing - I CAN'T throw away ANY old equipment that still works! (dead stuff is dead, but if it works - keep it!)

Some examples:
1 Conner 213meg HDD
1 Seagate 340meg HDD
2 Intel EtherExpress 16 (ISA w/ BNC/AUI connectors)
1 SupraExpress 144 external modem
Mag DX15F 15" monitor

As I typed this, I got thinking I could build another machine! MUHAHAHAH!!!

Quantum 120meg HDD :aah:
A bunch of NICs with nothing except coax ports (hey, our home network is coax!)
AND - this rocks! - a 5¼" floppy drive - and when I say floppy, those disks were the real thing! Anyone remember using masking tape on the write-protect hole?... Actually had to use it about 2 years ago...

Last place I worked for was a big corporation that was upgrading all of its 486DX2 IBM pcs. Sad part was that schools did not want it as a charitable donation and if they were going to take it, wanted all the licensed software and a printer to go with each one.

I think they were trashed after I left.

Mmmm old hardware.... Yeah, I have the 5.25" drive, I also have two that go with the C64, along with the tape drive I just bought for it. Then there is the 85MB Seagate drive running my router, and the 2.5" 120MB drive that is running my Inlaw's router. Also have a 386sx-25 waiting to be sacrificed in an experiment.

Several sub- 1 gig IDE and SCSI drives, a coax-only ISA ethernet card, a dual port plus SMPTE sync MIDI card that didn't have any drivers developed after Win95, a 5 14" floppy, and a pile of 256 K RAM sticks that I put onto keyrings and induct friends into the "Order Of The Geek" after they build their first machine from scratch :-)

I've got an external 5 1/4 floppy and the 5 floppies it took to load MS-Dos 5.

I'm not at home, but I can list some by memory

486 DLC with board
8x 1 meg 30 pins
3x 5 1/4" floppy drives
sound blaster original
40 MB HD
old SCSI tape backup (I don't have anything SCSI, so it's not much use)
old horizontal case with flip cover
2x 286 boards
386 board
and the list goes on...

All these things I've been given.

My daughter uses a 12-yr-old 14" monitor (looking for a cheap TFT to replace it). She also uses a home built computer with several components from my first PC, including an SB16 card (8 years old).

I've got lots of old junk in boses but this is what I'm still using.

Excellent idea on those mem sticks, Tom!

Hey, Skuz.... You can start inducting YOUR friends! (at least 8x of them!)

I keep everything. I use an old Seagate 40 meg hd as a paperweight, and stick of 128k ram as a key chain...

Putting it to new uses is kewl

I cant throw out anything, even if its shot, even stuff like old worn out fans :P
